The best. My 3rd set.
Camel oil paints are the best - for beginners and professionals. I’ve been using them for my oil paintings for a long time now. The texture and consistency is perfect. Even compared to pricier brands like Winston & Newton. You can view more of my artworks on @papertrailsart on Instagram.

Lack of Cadmium Yellow
I am a beginner in painting and I chose oil as my medium given how much flexibility it gives. Before this, I had purchased Daler-rowney Oil set of 12 paints from the brick and mortar store in Bangalore. They were pretty expensive (around 3k for 37ml tubes) and I thought I will be mixing mud for months before I get a hang of what I am trying to achieve. As a cheaper alternative, I bought the Camlin. The blue and Red are okay in my experience. They are bright and mix well to produce decent secondary colors. They yellow options in my set were lime yellow and chrome yellow. Both tilting a bit towards either blue or red. This leads to brownish orange and blueish green. My experience with Cadmium yellow before this has been great. I wish that was included in the set.Great for beginners still, because of the price factor. I used it with the Camlin linseed oil and the experience was good.

Decent for beginners, not good for Artists..
I wanted to try some cheap and basic stuff available for beginners in India, so bought the good old Camel Oils set. Tried and Tested, they held up against history over last few decades. It’s definitely a good set, especially for beginners.But.., I still recommend any beginner to go search for individual colours and buy 4 or 5 of basic colours (Cadmium Red, Cadmium Yellow, Titanium White, Ultramarine Blue and Ivory Black). I won’t even recommend getting Black at all. Also, important to mention, even though this is called a “Professional Set”, the White, Red, Blue and Yellow provided in this set aren’t the same as I mentioned above. Sure, cadmium can be toxic sometimes, but if that decision was taken for a students’ set, I wouldn’t have bothered. But on an “Artists’ Set”, this is way too much of a compromise Camel. And those colours exist in their catalogue of oils. They’re willingly not giving those colours so that you’d buy those specific colours later. So, like I mentioned above, do search for individual basic colours I’ve mentioned above and buy those 4 or 5. That’s all you’re gonna need to create any colour in the whole damn universe! It’s only gonna make you a better painter.
