An excellent book! It is an absolute must for anyone in a relationship and considering having a family. Contains lots of exercises that can be done by family members to increase their understanding of each other and improve communication. It is not only useful for those about to start a family but also for those who already have children and perhaps are experiencing some parenting issues. I highly recommend it.

A brilliant book with great explanations of issues that families face. It also has great easy and practical ways of dealing with family issues whether you have a healthy mindset or not.If you are a parent you must read this book....

I don't hate the book, it's ok, although more marked than was described. The main issue is that it took two months to arrive. As it was research material for a college assignment, this was most unhelpful.

Malgrés son age, ce livre conserve une immense actualité dans les concept de la thérapie familiale. Virginia Satir a apportée énormément à Richard Bandler pour le développement de la PNL.

Woher wissen wir wie eine Paarbeziehung funktioniert? Nur weil wir ein Paar sind? Oder wie Kindererziehung geht? Wahrscheinlich reicht da der biologische Teil des Elternwerdens nicht aus. Virginia Satir gibt dazu und zu einigen anderen Dingen einige Anregungen. Ohne belehrend oder bewertend zu sein. Das ganze Buch ist von einer offenen und wertschätzenden Haltung geprägt. "Man" liest die Liebe zu den Menschen aus den Zeilen. Ein schönes Buch.

As a family man and soon counselor-to-be, I am dismayed at the number of books re: the family that are pathology oriented. If as a student all you ever were some of the mainstream texts/resources, which are so reductionistic, you would come away with a view of the family that would have you questioning whether or not the very institution itself is viable for sustaining the mental health of all of its members.Not so Virginia Satir's work which is very positive and uplifting. She resists the temptation to simplistically blame everything on "dysfunction" between the partners in the "marital dyad," and instead looks at the family as a collection of imperfect individuals who all have a potential to grow and learn.I especially like her emphasis on finding the family's strengths and building on those. Anyone can take a look and come up with "what's wrong." But this does nothing to solve problems and foster resiliency, which all families need in this decidedly familly-hostile culture.Whether you are an experienced family therapist, counselor-to-be,or a mental health generalist, if you work with and have an interest in families, I encourage you to get to know the works of Virginia Satir. This one perfectly encapsulates her paradigm for working with families in need.
