Great speakers at a good price
I use these speakers with my laptop and I love them. Even though the speakers and woofer are relatively small, they create a lot of sound. People are always surprised by how loud they are for their size. The sound is clear and detailed. The bass has a great thump, especially since I keep the woofer under my desk in the space made for the pc tower (the sound bounces off the wood and amplifies the thump of the bass). I keep the woofer dial in the middle and when I want to really pump up my music, I move the dial on the speakers to a little past the middle (I keep the volume on my laptop set to the max). They make listening to music and watching movies more pleasurable. However, these speakers aren't powerful enough to provide the full, surround sound required for something like a party. In my opinion, these speakers reach their loudest and best quality sound when the dial is set to just past the middle (both on the speaker and woofer). I've been told that the type of sound card used also has an effect on sound quality but I don't for myself because I have a standard sound card in my laptop. These speakers are a great buy for frugal music lovers [though they're no longer as cheap as they were before-$31.99 in May 200] who don't have a lot of space for large speakers.

Very Good!
I purchased these after reading so many reviews - and I wanted a front headphone jack for my Sennheiser PX 100's. My very researched observations: (1)Presentation and build quality are excellent; (2)Sound quality is not; it's very good, but not excellent. They can handle volume very well, and they pump out the highs and lows very well. Like so many other reviewees I now have my sub volume all the way off (that's enough), and I've messed around with equalizer settings adinfinitum. I still can't seem to bring up and balance the midrange frequencies enough though, and the final sound always seems to remain a bit flat, even perhaps a bit 'tinny' and somewhat unnatural and inaccurate sounding because the midrange can't seem to assert itself effectively enough above the output of the highs and lows. I find myself constantly recalibrating my equalizer settings to compensate for this, but I think the problem is not a function of input adjustment but a lack of effective midrange output(no midrange speakers). For the money these speakers are good, but if you want beautiful, accurate, musical reproduction, these might be more or less only as good as the stock speakers that came with your computer. However, these speakers can handle volume, so they're probably very good for parties or gaming. I've got my rack system tied into my computer as well, so for me, it's possible to compensate for some of the lack of midrange when I crank up the whole system. If you want beautiful musical reproduction from only these speakers, maybe it's best to spend more money with the aim of getting some more midrange and therewith some more accurate sound reproduction as well. If you're looking for a stand alone replacement for your stock speakers that can handle volume for gaming or parties, then these will probably be excellent...Thanks to all for their previous very informative reviews...I'm glad I purchase these speakers, and I'm very satisfied with them - but, for music, only as an integral part of my total sound system.

Frustratingly good and bad
First, the good:- This system looks reasonably slick.- The main speakers sound wonderful! No more hiss like with my old speakers... wonderfully crisp sound!- Everything was straightforward and easy to setup. But the bad...:- Cords are a bit short. I had to put the right speaker closer to to my computer than I wanted to.- Surprisingly, this doesn't seem to have the same peak volume that my five-year-old Logitech speakers have. I have turn everything up (my Windows sound settings and my speakers) pretty high if I want to blast a movie soundtrack to fill up the room.- The bass overwhelms EVERYTHING else even with the subwoofer turned all the way down! Logitech, this is fun and fine with computer games and maybe some types of hip hop or electronica, but it's positively ruining my enjoyment of my jazz and classical and most other genres of music. Literally giving me a headache.I'm seriously tempted to send these speakers back for a refund, except I know that the shipping costs and hassles are likely to outweigh the relatively small amount I paid for this item. Maybe I'll it to a gamer friend or someone who REALLY loves *thumping* (and seemingly disconnected) bass.
