An overview of the Charlotte Mason approach to homeschooling
This book is quite a hefty volume, but is written in an easy to read style. It is illustrated with Victorian ink drawings throughout with most double pages having at least one illustration.Karen Andreola presents many different aspects of education, which is far broader than learning facts from books. It is about forming a child's character through a loving family environment, training in good habits, encouraging curiosity to learn, building faith through good example of the parents. This book encourages people to think about bringing up their children in a very different way from how most do it in today's rat race.My only slight criticism is that after condemning the practise of asking comprehension questions as a way of checking if a child has understood a passage, she ends most chapters with a series of questions "for personal reflection or support group discussion". Surely, Karen, you should trust us readers to be able to narrate and discuss ideas without these prompts!
