Took the clutch off of my Echo CS590 Timberwolf chainsaw

Works just as intended. Just be sure you order the correct size tool as there are two different ones for two different clutches being used.

This is only about Echo/Shindaiwa/Kioritz saws — I don’t know whether it applies to any other brands.There’s a lot of confusing “information” on the intermess regarding which Echo clutch tool fits which saws. There’s even confusion — between part numbers and descriptions — regarding how many different tools there are.As far as I can tell there are in fact just the two Echo clutch tools pictured here (and some generic tools I can’t comment on). Regardless of the stated part number, there’s the tool with angled ridges on the bottom and “2600” on the top, and the one that just has the three larger pegs on the bottom and a plain top. Both fit a 19mm / 3/4” socket. If they’re really OEM then they’re made by Yamabiko Corporation.I have a CS3000E Type1, and one parts diagram specifies one tool, while a service bulletin specifies the other. Most vendor images aren’t helpful, because there’s nothing in them to give a useful sense of scale. And then there are all the ‘helpful’ reviews where some id10t says “fit my saw perfect” or “didn’t fit my saw” without telling us what saw they have…Here’s how to tell which one you need:Grab a penny. Center it on your saw’s clutch. Look straight down on the penny:- If the penny is noticeably larger than the center of your clutch then you need the one with the angled ridges and “2600” cast into the top.- If the penny is smaller than the center of your clutch — even just barely — then you need the tool that just has three larger pegs and a plain top (89750516133).Yes you want a piston stop (an old Stihl works fine for the CS3000).Remember that the clutch has a reverse thread. Also remember that the starter has a one-way ratchet and you will want the piston to be against the stop from the correct side of TDC for loosening or tightening — if tightening (or loosening) feels “springy” then you need to back the stop out, move the piston to the other side of TDC, and replace the stop, then loosen/tighten. You don’t want to break the starter fixing the clutch…

The tool met expectations, quality & price is adequate and appears to be well made.

I bought this device after watching YouTube videos of people trying all sorts of non-conventional ways to remove the clutch, and was NOT impressed. This device worked perfectly on my Echo. Aided with an impact gun/wrench made it super easy to remove the clutch without having to remove the sparkplug and stick a rope in the cylinder. I simply placed the device on the clutch, pulled the trigger on the impact gun (remember it is a reverse thread so clockwise to remove) and voila! I installed the new clutch drum and then used the impact gun to easily snug the clutch back in place.

Kinda pricey at $31.45 CAD but look’s to be of good quality.
