Impressive - VERY Impressive Photography
I remember back in 2007 getting my original "High Def" Blu-Ray system. I read that Planet Earth would show me why Blu-Ray was superior, and necessary, for a great picture. Well, it was eye-opening visuals and then some, and Planet Earth II in 4K/UHD does the same. Yes, I watched a few movies like the 4 disk set of Daniel Craig doing James Bond, and they are great (the 2.5 aspect ratio needs 4K for that alone, but another story), but this disk set, Planet Earth II, is truly stunning in the color, color space and HDR expansion of the picture - the high pixel count provides wow of its own, but the color rendition is way beyond any plasma or LCD/LED TV I've seen (not that huge OLED TVs are available to compare - nobody I know owns one). So, you just have to get a copy of the set and watch it. The surround sound is very good, although they don't do it all the time. That's probably because if they did it would be a gimmick. When the scene calls for it, you know there are things around you, like bird calls in all directions, or huge surf pounding things all over the place, they apply it and it seems appropriate. The visuals, though, are beyond any movie I've seen, and that includes the modern theaters in 4K (I think it started with The Hobbit). I much prefer the 60 fps to the flickering 24 fps of the "olden days" - and I don't care what the so-called expert know-it-alls think of "it doesn't look movie-like" in 60 fps. What I know is that if I was there, impossible though that might be, the smooth motion of 60 fps is what my real eyeballs would see, so from here out, 60 fps is the natural look. This disk set just looks like you're there, and I find it really impressive.Get your kids around to see the bears scratch their backs - that part is hilarious. It's on one of the 3 "episodes" on the first disk. For once a documentary series also has a great sense of humor. If you have a new 4K setup, perhaps thanks to Black Friday prices, get this disk set just to remind you (if watching a poor transfer from film or 2K) that your purchase was worth it.

Excellent 7-Discs of Full 4K, 24P Content
All 7 discs (includes 1 extra on how they made it) are full 4K/24p resolution, with HDR10, so reviewers who claim they got lower resolution discs must have received something wrong or bogus. I did have to clean the playing surface of some of the discs, which was not difficult using a dry non-oily Kleenex tissue, and in one case also a little rubbing alcohol. Before cleaning, a couple of the discs had issues, but after cleaning totally perfect play. Just look at the playing surface before installing it, and make sure it has no blotches or smears. The two disc holders each have only two places for discs, so because one holds 4 discs and one holds 3 discs, 3 of the discs must be stacked on top of another disc, so they will pick up dirt or whatever might be on the label side of the discs hey are stacked on.After watching most of the discs of this, I watched a 1080/60i show on DirecTV with similar content, and I found out now I'm spoiled with the clearly superior 4K clarity and detail of these discs. It is well worth the additional cost, which isn't much, because there are so many hours of content, the cost per hour is pretty low.I love the beautiful and colorful scenes. The first time trough, I'm listening to the narration, which has many interesting facts, but after the first time, I'll use this without the sound on as just background scenic beauty with interesting scenes of wildlife, water, beaches, landscapes, ships, and submarines. It would be nice if it had an alternate optional music sound track, but I can just turn down the sound, and play music on my stereo along with it; it's just sometimes a little better if the music is synchronized to the visuals.
