This book is a must read for all
I have read Dr. Fung's website (Intensive Dietary Management) and seen many of his interviews on YouTube. You can get almost all the information from those sources as what is in this book. But this book is still fantastic. Dr. Fung explains that insulin is the driver of weight gain. Dr. Fung is a kidney specialist treating many patients with Type 2 diabetes. He has seen first hand the effect insulin has on the body. The strengths of this book. Part 1: Explaining insulin and how it is not (always) the same as blood sugar. This was surprising to me. Low-carb is in fashion now but doesn't mean we can eat unlimited protein. He also spends a lot of time talking about a body's set weight by homeostasis. Part 2: Fasting is a great way to reduce insulin levels. Dr. Fung shows how it is safe and can actually make us more productive. Another big point I took away from this book is that you don't need to fast for a week or even 24 hours. You just need to fast after meals. This means no snacking.Dr. Fung does give some scientific explanations did I have to work through a couple times but it is not wholly necessary in understanding his message. He cites study after study of peer-reviewed, non-animal research to make his case. In the end, the case is made to the reader to be mindful of their insulin levels. This will help lead to health and sustained weight loss for those in need.

Rethinking what AND when you eat
This a fantastic book which has included more surprising information than I had thought. It's extremely informative and quick to read. None of the information is dumbed down but it is presented in a manner anyone can understand. This comes highly recommended and I recommend it as well. Now, put down the sugar.
