Holy Awesome. This book was so helpful in my overall remodeling project and not just for one or two wiring situations. It has a load calculator which I had not seen before and answered a question I had about why a single 100amp breaker controlled a whole breaker box. And it is packed, perhaps a little redundantly at times with codes which were super useful to know and forced me to change my plans but better now than later when all the drywall is up. Anyways I've owned several books on wiring and that is all they were, just wiring diagrams. This book is so much more, I pored over practically every page and learned pretty much all I need to and so much more. I'm a very happy camper. I ordered Black and Deckers Codes for Homeowners and I hope it is as usefully and as awesome as Mr Rongey book.

Book has lots of useful pictures of equipment for the novice, and detailed checklists for various projects and procedures. That being said, it's most useful as a hard copy so that you can leaf through it. So be prepared to download the book and print up to pages and chapters as needed. I ordered the hard copy from Amazon, and fount it to greyscale - unfortunately. Not totally useless, obviously, but not as nice as the color PDF that was downloaded.Otherwise, it's a very good buy and has lots of explanatory stuff on components.

The book is short on theory, but really useful as a collection of checklists to make sure you do the projects correctly. Incorporates lots of safety reminders. More useful than I thought it would be, but if you are looking for theory, you need a different book. As far as being practical, this is one that you will want to keep handy for projects. A great find, IMO.

normally I try to find a book at the library to decide if I should buy it. They didn't have one so I bought this in the blind. Not written like other books which might appeal to the less experienced. Unlike other books it does show wired examples but that is over shadowed by the fact that this entire book has nothing but black and white photos. Small, low quality photos, every where. Come on, it's the 2020's, can't you afford a color camera and some printer ink? It's not written like a tutorial but rather by categories. Need a GFCI in the garage, this shows that with pictures, small, black and white low quality pictures. Even the wiring diagrams are in shades of black and gray. If you are looking expecting easy to decipher color photos with better details, buy a different book. You are buying a how to book to "see" how to do something. These pictures would probably cause a novice to toss this book away or get a refund. I only gave it a 3 star rating because it does offer good information broken down into topics that people are looking for stuff, garbage disposals, drier, range, etc. Rather than a tutorial on 240 v circuits where you have more questions than answers about the connectors and hook up wires, this book actually shows that stuff for those uses. But once again, small pictures and gray scale wiring diagrams. Buy a magnifying glass and colored pencils, you might need them.

If you have some knowledge about electrical wiring and you need to do some simple repairs or replacements around the house. This is the book to own. I also recommend this book for those who are interested in going to school for residential electrical wiring and apprentenships.

The explanations appear to be good!

Book and information was great. The pictures must have been printed in the 90s by a home printer. The picture quality is seriously crap. I don't know what problem was solved with the horrible resolution quality, but it must have been necessary to lead anyone to go to print with these low quality pictures.
