Classic design that's easy to read and good to look at
I've been an admirer of the Braun alarm clocks for many years, having owned one of their voice activated alarms. That clock is still running but the lume on the hands had stopped working and it didn't have a light. This new round clock is classic Braun minimalist design that just delivers on the important aspects; a simple elegant shape with a clearly visible face. The hands have good lume on them, and there is alight that illuminates the face gently for 5 seconds when you press down on the clock. The shape looks like it will roll away, but it's very sturdy and steady. The alarm is one that starts of with a couple of chirps a second of so apart, then after a few seconds the number of chirps increase. To snooze the alarm for 5 minutes just press down on the clock, then to stop the alarm permanently press the button on the top. When the alarm is set this raises and displays a green band to clearly show the alarm is set. If I were to find any gripe it would be that I'd like the alarm to start quieter and increase in volume as well as beep frequency, but that's minor. I find this clock a perfect size for a bedside table, and it does what you need really well. Worth the money and I expect will last for many years.

Triumph of design over practicality!
Like other reviewers, I don't want to have to pick up my mobile phone to tell the time at night. After using a succession of cheap poor-quality alarm clocks I thought I'd spend a bit more to enjoy Braun's renowned design style and quality. I chose the black model. What a joke!1. The alarm hand is black against the black clock face: almost impossible to see even in good light. Its has a dark green tip - also almost impossible to see.2. The dial light is incredibly dim (looks like old-fashioned filament bulb rather than LED) and attempts to shine up to the top of the face from the 5 o'clock position: it doesn't succeed. It certainly isn't bright enough to demonstrate the black alarm hand if you want to adjust the alarm time in the dark.3. Pressing the dial light actuator - buy pushing the whole clock down onto its foot - lights it for 5 seconds: fair enough for a quick look at the time, but even if you keep the light 'switch foot' pressed, the light still goes out after 5 seconds: useless if you want to adjust anything.4. And to - say - change the alarm time in the dark, you have to twist the alarm key (clockwise only, otherwise you're warned that you may break the clock) on the back of the clock, so you have to pick up the clock, squeeze the light actuator and twist the alarm key all at the same time...and the light goes out after 5 seconds!5. Snooze function involves pressing down the whole clock onto its foot (turning on the light of course, but of course only for 5 seconds), with the risk of turning off the alarm altogether by pressing down the broad alarm bar on the top.So this was a disappointing useless £20 purchase. And I can't return it because I'm not visiting post offices in the pandemic. That's life.

Gets the smartphone out of the bedroom
Decent little clock with simple controls. You can wind the alarm all the way around past the current time, but you also can’t wind it backwards to adjust, which is a bit odd.You have to remember to set the alarm manually every night which is a bit annoying but easy to do.It was completely silent to begin with but eventually I could begin to hear a faint tick. This seems to come and go and thankfully isn’t enough to be a distraction even for someone as sensitive to noise as me.It falls over quite easily because it is small and light. The alarm sound and snooze are good. It gets more intense the longer you leave it. I just wish it would wait a little longer before going into the more urgent sound. It’s much better than the big one I bought from Eve, that’s for sure.
