It does its job. It’s better for short hair. Overnight use requires hair pins.
I bought this type of self grip mini rollers because I wanted to add longer lasting wavy curls to my hair, particularly the curves of the cascading bangs because long hair curls tend not to last long using only my BabyLissPro curler (bought here) in addition to the products that are used with it, of course.I planned to use the curler and, after the products I use in my routine, a bit of hair spray to help the curls set and stay curled longer and then I did sleep with these curlers in my hair so in the morning the hair would be sufficiently curly for the day. Luckily it did exactly what I anticipated it would* (see asterisk below).Because of sleeping on them I had to use long hair pins so as to fix the rollers in place and stay rolled up all night so that I would be able wake up after a whole night of sleep with the curlers still in the same position as when I went to bed (or the closest possible to that). So, as you see, for the purpose I used them, the self gripping feature doesn’t help much because without the hair pins it wouldn’t have stayed on through the night. But that doesn’t detract from the functionality that I sought when I chose this item. There was no smell, the rollers don’t deform easily if only worn for the purpose at hand. I say that because in the past I had stored a medium roller like this in a way that I tucked in two mini rollers inside of the medium one. Because the 2 smaller ones fit very snugly inside the medium one, when I took them off the medium one had suffered a little transformation in its original format but that was of my own doing when I decided to be “innovative” in the storage method.Bottom line, it can do its job properly but we have to bear in mind that “hair perfection” is never achieved with only 1 product/tool. The rollers alone will not get your result: you still need to use the products and styling tools you’d usually do to get the end result. But, yes, it will help “set” your curls to last longer if you are creative and know how your own hair behaves and how to handle it.For reference, my hair is extremely abundant with a thick porous fiber and a natural light curl to it if not styled. When I used the rollers my hair was very long (more than 20 inches long), cut in layers with cascading bangs and I styled it straight with a blowout dryer called Shark (bought here), which is a dryer that has a brush attachment at the end that touches the hair directly, enabling you to dry and style your hair mostly with one hand holding the dryer with the brush on its end and a bit of helping of the other hand but no need for the “free” arm to hold a brush while the one hand holds the dryer throughout the drying process, which saves your arms from having to be both above your head the whole time, which is quite tiresome and uncomfortable when you have lots of hair. The hair in reference has a thick texture with a porous fiber and a tendency to “fluff up” in humidity or with the wind. That’s why I thought that smaller rollers would make the curls last longer, get set, “curlier” and, hence, allowing the hairdo to be the way planned. With a hair like mine I decided to buy 2 packets of the rollers so as to have 24 rollers to work with (plus a few others I still had). With 24 rollers I think we have plenty to work with.I noticed that, in the past, when I curled just the ends of the hair (rolling not more than 3 times around the roller), the functionality of the rollers was more perfect, with no glitch.Conversely, I did notice that using the rollers to roll all the way up the hair length (20+ in), when you need to reposition them while rolling it up and also when you need to remove them, the self gripping material may cause a bit of pain: it got stuck to my hair in different levels of the hair length and I had to do some magic to remove it in order to feel less pain. This only happened because my hair is long. If the hair is shorter the mini size and self-grip feature would make it easier to use and great to help styling shorter hair. So, in the right circumstance, there’s potential to help control frizzy hair and to create good looking curls.I’m yet to use these rollers to seat under the salon style standing “passive” hair dryer (that would skip the whole work of drying the hair holding the dryer and a brush) to see how it works. After I do that I’ll come back here and update the review.Considering rollers are not the only thing needed to make your hair look good on its own (there are other products and work involved), I do recommend them.I don’t have the rollers with me as I write so if it allows me to edit this post when I get to where the rollers are, I’ll add pictures.

VOLUME GALORE!!
I love these self gripping rollers for my short baby fine, thin hair! They are absolutely perfect! Be sure to use them on damp, NOT DRY, hair. I only have to use a very small amount of setting mouse with these awesome rollers and leave them in until my hair is dry. I sometimes use my hair dryer if I am short of time, to give me volume that lasts for days until I shampoo again. I could not be happier with the volume these rollers give me. I highly recommend them. Just be sure to unroll them, do not pull them out of your hair when it is dry, to keep from damaging your hair or even pulling hair out. Love the different diameters of this set, and the different colors for each size makes them easy to differentiate.

PERFECT TO GIVE MY SHORTISH HAIR VOLUME!
First, I'm in my late sixties with FINE, THIN, STRAIGHT hair. I kept my hair in a pixie cut for YEARS. Until recently, haven't used rollers in about 20 years. I decided I wanted to try to let my hair grow for awhile, but that meant having to do more than wash and dry it. It just HANGS unless I roll it. SO tried the self grip rollers and love them, but need some other products to give and keep the bounce. So here's my experience with these rollers and what I use with them.EASY TO USE AND TAKE OUT - I have thin, fine hair and I can roll my hair easily and take them out when dry.I DON'T NEED to use any clippies with them. I wouldn't say I could jog with them in without one falling out, but they hold WELL for me.PRICE - EXCELLENT PRICE. 12 for about 7 bucks was a great deal and 12 was perfect for me. I am growing out a pixie cut, so different lengths and the 30 mm and some 25 mm I have work great for now.MY FAV MOUSSE and WHAT HELPS me take them out easier - GOT2B FAT-TASTIC MOUSSE. GIVES me more volume, yet leaves my hair SOFT. Helps the rollers release easier. I have FINE, THIN, STRAIGHT hair and SELF GRIP ROLLERS, GOT2B MOUSSE and SEBASTIAN SHAPER HAIR SPRAY give me the volume, bounce and staying power I need. I wash, towel dry, use the mousse and roll my hair and let dry a few hours before bed. I take the rollers out, but don't BRUSH it and go to bed. I wake up with bouncy hair. Fluff it up with my fingers, lightly brush and spray with Sebastian Shaper and I'm good to go.
