It is better without a key! Any trained person with a lock pick may open a simple key mechanism. Any locksmith can open your door unless is a specialty lock. With only an electronic pad, no lock pick can force it . This system includes an alarm if tampered and two electrodes at the bottom to put an emergency 9v battery in case you dismissed negligently warnings of low battery (so you can open it even if the batteries inside are dead). If you are super paranoid or need more security, add an extra non-tamper lock, like mul-t-lock, and close it at night or when you don't have Amazon deliveries. I hope this helps. My experience is superb with this mechanism, Amazon key is flawless and I can open and close the door from my app at any time anywhere. It also has an autolock feature. The deliveries has been great, with the action captured by the cloud cam. I suggest a Ring doorbell to have the complete picture (Ring 1 is not good. Ring 2 is better, but still battery operated. If you expend fifty more, buy the Ring pro and attach it to your existing wired doorbell, it works as well as a camera, with no lags).Best,

The Yale Assure YRD256 Lock SL Key Free Touchscreen Deadbolt is everything I was expecting. Touch pad entry means I'll never get locked out of my home; using my home WiFi software control makes setup a breeze; and the Amazon Cloud Cam provides me security notifications and video when I'm away from the house when it detects movement in the house including my iRobot Roomba Robot Vacuum activity.

First let me say you have to pace yourself, familiarize with the parts and you’ll be able to get it done quick if your existing door doesn’t have unexpected alignment issues beyond reason. For me personally I have a standard Yale deadbolt that allowed me to resuse the deadbolt cylinder. Why? Because for whatever reason my door was installed without a back plate (not referring to strike plate). The cylinder that comes with this model has a back plate that cannot be removed. I needed to either chisel out space for the back plate or use my original. Thankfully my original was compatible.Why it was extremely easy is if you download the BILT app, there are visual instructions for the YRD256 that just made it crazy easy. Wish the Amazon smart lock was this easy. The app said it may take an hour, it took me 15min, the visuals and audio instructions were that good. Granted the voice over isn’t natural but good enough. It’s also a testament of the YRD256 design, which is way better than the AmazonBasics smart lock (very different price) at this time.You’ll need to set up a master code and then you can set up user entry codes. Fairly straightforward.Next was Key app / Amazon Cloud cam... boy it couldn’t have been easier, the Key app guided all the steps.As you already noticed the Cloud Cam cable has this rectangular box, inside of the box is circuitry they sends Zigbee protocol signals which the Yale Smart lock can understand. So in essence the Cloud Cam is the lock’s hub. Pretty clever combination by Amazon and Yale. And if you’re lucky, you can find a smoking deal usually on Prime Day or Black Friday.All in all i couldn’t be happier having lived through some pain with the AmazonBasics smart lock, you simply get what you pay for in this case.

I love the features which allow me to give codes to each child or friend for whatever time period I wish. As I wrote this my neighbor texted me to say my cat was meowing to get in my front door. Although I am an hour away, I just unlocked the door, watched her being let in by my neighbor and the door is locked up again. It's also great to know my Amazon packages are always secure. It's a great product and reliable beyond my expectations.The only problem is when there is a storm and the router is down, you are out of luck with out another entry source. Also, there can be connection issues that cause some delays with locking or unlocking but worth the seldom inconveniences. I love it.

My sole gripe about this lock is my inability to install it perfectly square, it's about 5° off parallel but this is almost certainly my fault.Since moving into our current house, where I do not keep the garage entry unlocked, I've locked myself out twice (once I was able to enter through an unlocked window but had to drive 3 hours roundtrip back to an AirBnB where I left my key, and the other time I was unable to let my dog out during an unplanned overnight trip to Disney). Those two events sealed my decision to get a smart lock and it's in my top three favorite purchases ever (next to my nest and my harmony hub smart remote)Installation took very little effort, though if your door holes are not aligned properly, like mine weren't, you'll need to work a little harder to get perfect alignment because the lock's mechanism doesn't have the oomph to overcome that friction like our hands do.If your battery dies (hasn't yet in 6 months) a 9v battery jump is all you need.And since I've gotten this lock, I never have any possibility of ever locking myself out again, I can set up unlock codes for family members and see who came in by the code used. I can give our housekeeper or maintenance people one time use codes for peace of mind and, with the Amazon cloud cam that came in my bundle, I can eliminate the possibility of porch pirates by having packages delivered directly into my home (though I haven't made use of this feature due to my own distrust of strangers, but I use the cam to monitor my foyer which is nice).I have talked enough, and digress here, but I cannot recommend this product enough.

I love that the camera has the hub required for the lock to work through the app, WiFi and Alexa. A newer hub alone costs close to $100. The lock and camera works flawlessly. This Yale lock replaced a kevo quickset lock which had issues from the get go. You also have the option to disable “in home” delivery... No regrets with this purchase!

So easy to use. No more carrying or looking for a key. Inside deliveries so I don’t have to worry about boxes left on the porch. Can see inside of my house from anywhere at anytime. A true life changer.
