Easy to follow camera guide
This guide to the Canon EOS 5D mark II is easy to read and follow and supplements the Canon manual perfectly. Tells you why you should set your camera up in a particular way through the various menus on the camera and elaborates in more detail the various options available to the photographer. Having read it from cover to cover I now am just able to dip in to sections to refresh my memory on items/features as and when I require them. The book is never too far away from my camera although it does not go on field trips due to its size. Good value for money for the serious photographer who wants to get more from their camera.

A really useful guide!
I read all the reviews on this book and decided that I could use the added benefit of clear illustrations and some background anecdotes from a respected and seasoned pro. I wasn't disappointed. Whilst I'm sure that a pro would make a far better job of using the camera than I would, I've been really pleased with the initial results from the camera (it's a fabulous piece of kit for the price), and this book has helped to made my initial experience with the camera, a positive one.

Quite good
More of an elaborate owners manual than anything else. It's handy for references and looking up things about the camera quickly, but it doesn't expand in the direction of hints and tips.

David Busch's Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR Guide
Can only say at the moment this book is all that I needed to finally get INTO the 5D2. I have been frustrated by the Canon manual since having this DSLR (approx 18 months) for an in depth description of the menu functions/controls. Don't misunderstand me, the Canon manual is good but such a complex camera requires explaining by somebody (as Mr Busch) who has spent the time through operating various Canon models to understand the full workings. In all honesty I'm too lazy to sit down with the camera & try everything hit or miss, far easier to read this book & then try the various changes that suit the individual user.I am only a keen amateur photographer & last time I had a pro standard model it was Film (Nikon F4) & using the 5D2 I have done wedding photography & been pleased, as the Bride & Groom were, with the results but always felt there was something more to know about this camera.I have only just completed 6 chapters which covers Getting to Know the 5D2 (1-3) & Beyond Basics (4-6). The interesting chapters are yet to be read Advanced Tools (7-11) & Enhancing Your Experience (12-13)You may ask, "Why read the early (Basic) chapters?" Well I just did not want to miss anything David Busch may have to say & I dot not think I am beyond learning new bits & pieces no matter how well I may think I know the 5D2 & certainly glad I did as there were a few little bits I picked up from these early chapters. I am very keen to sit down & get into the next section of this book to learn in depth knowledge on the model. If the earlier chapters were anything to go by then the 2nd half should be mind blowing. Don't think anyone will be disappointed with this book,Well done David Busch. Thank you....

It was worth the wait!
I waited and waited for this book to get published, and after a few delays it eventually became available.I'm pleased I waited and didn't buy one of the competitor publications, that, judging from reviews, appear to be padded out versions of the Canon manual. This book is informative, well laid out, and I've found information therein easy to find, and useful also, AND actually adds to what's in the Canon manual!

Quite disappointed with this book
I'm a professional photographer and have been for some years but I'm not a know it all. When I bought my 5d mark 2 two years ago I sat and read the entire manual cover to cover with the camera in front of me playing with each function as it appeared in the instructions, making test shots as I went along and seeing for myself the results. Whilst this gave me a good understanding of the camera I felt the supplied manual lacked clarity in certain areas.I decided I needed a expanding manual. As I recall the guides to cameras from 15 years ago used to go into every single function in depth and talk about ways around those lacking features. I learnt a great deal about photography from those. When this book arrived I was cheerful to see it was 400 pages long, surely a guide this big wouldn't lack a thing sadly I was wrong. I found several examples of where huge chunks of what would be valued information is missing. For example the writer makes no mention of shooting sRAW at high ISO and how this helps with colour noise. Instead only seeing it as a way of making smaller files and saving memory. Again the writer talks about setting a customer white balance but doesn't talk about understanding true colour shifts in any depth (even with digital this can only really be done with the aid of a colour chart and or filters on camera)In summary this is an OK book but it's far from a true guide. The 5d mk2 is an outstanding camera there is a lot more that can be done with this camera with a few minor in camera adjustments than is ever mentioned in this guide. Personally I question is the purchase really going to help improve anyones photography much beyond that of the basic manual and a little reading on the net.

David Busch's Canon EOS 5D Mark II Guide to Digital SLR Photography
Excellent Guide. Recently took delivery of a 5D MKII and this book is so much better than reading the Canon manual. Really covers the basic functions and capabilities of the camera well, but throws in quite a lot of really good advise about getting the best out the camera. I think it will be a good reference source going forward.

If you own a digital camera then get a David Busch manual to understand it completely.
I have/ have read literally hundreds of camera manuals and if you buy any of David Busch's manuals them you can throw the rest away. Get your camera beside you, start at page 1 and read.Beautifully explained, easy to absorb and written in an easy too digest style.
