Frontier Organic Seasoning, Vindaloo, 1.9 Ounce

The best vindaloo I've every had was at an NYC restaurant named Baluchi's. I used to eat there at least once a week when I lived in Manhattan in the 1990s, and I always ordered the chicken vindaloo. Baluchi's is out of business now, but this vindaloo spice mix is similar to the fantastic flavor I found at Baluchi's.I'm using this spice mix as the main flavoring whenever I cook a vindaloo dish, meat or veggie, but it's also great as a snack, just sprinkled on buttered naan (I also add it sometimes to a quick peanut-butter sandwich and it's really good matched with a peanut flavor). I also tend to add some of this powder (along with a little ginger powder) to the water before I add the rice to boil it. It really adds a good Indian flavor to the rice.I'm really glad I found this spice mix. When I'm in the kitchen, every once in a while, I pull this out just to smell it. What an aroma -- it's wonderful.

We eat a lot of Indian food and we like it hot. I make my own curry powder but I love this as a standby for when I don't want to fuss, say for a weeknight dinner.It is a good blend, seems very fresh and is nice and spicy. You have to use these spices up quickly so as they don't go stale.Perfect for Bombay Potatoes or vegetable/Chicken Vindaloo - my kids love it in egg salad and on roasted cauliflower. It doesn't taste like the Vindaloo Powder we get in UK but what can you do? Still, it's a nice basic for the spice rack and I will buy again

Not too familiar with Indian cooking, so can't speak to the authenticity of this, but adds complex taste & good but not overpowering heat to a dish. Have found that it holds it's flavors best if added at the end of cooking. Also good just sprinkled on eggs or cooked veg, especially fried potatoes.

This is a pleasantly spicy seasoning mix, subtly different from the regular curry powder. When sprinkled on during or after cooking, it doesn't give you a "vindaloo experience" by any means. To get a better effect you'll have to make some sort of sauce and add a fair amount of this curry powder. I have simmered onions and other vegetables in some coconut milk or ghee with lots of this seasoning added, then later added in chicken and cooked thoroughly, which worked pretty well. It would probably be more tasty prepared in a slow cooker or if this were used in a marinade. I think it just needs to sink in more than I usually let it to get the fullest flavor.

So glad to discover this all natural, organic curry seasoning! Not all the frontier Co-op products are USDA Organic but this is one of them and it's excellent for cooking coconut curry soup, chicken & vegetable stir-fry or sauteed salmon! Thank you for quick shipping as well.

I used this instead of the McCormick brand in my signature Curry Beef Stew. This made the recipe so much more flavorful and delicious. I will only be using this from now on. It smells authentic the moment you open it. I also love the glass jar to preserve the freshness.

Would give this 10 stars if I could find it in stock. I purchased this vindaloo curry for the first time a while ago it was delicious tried to buy it again and it was out for months. Finally got a notification from Amazon it was back in stock and when I opened the Amazon app it was the last one left.
