How to make laundry soap

I make a power laundry soap by combining: 4oz finely grated Zote 10oz Washing soda (not baking soda) 6oz BoraxThese measurements are by weight, not volume. I have not found a formula for liquid soap that is to my liking. I have a front loading machine, so I just throw 1/8 to 1/4 cup in with the clothes and do not use the soap dispenser built into my washer.If you use softener or bleach, they can go into the dispenser as usual. I have a well with very hard water but the clothes still come out looking and smelling great and probably will last longer too.

Can this be used on silk?

I would not advise it. Silk is a natural fiber that will tend to dry out and turn stiff - like your natural hair would - because, with a pH of 9-14, this soap is too alkaline. Silk should be cleansed with a neutral soap or detergent with a pH between 5 and 9.

Can this be used in he washing machine

I’ve read several places that it’s good for HE machines. I don’t have one so I have no first hand knowledge. My understanding is that powdered detergents in general are hard on the machine, they just don’t dissolve; grate it or melt into a liquid doesn’t cause harm. I use flakes, glad to use a soap that’s safe.

Will it remove yellow sweat stains from thick white uniforms?

Yes, you just have to scrub it by hand then put your clothes in the regular wash. This soap is awesome! It removes pretty much everything, even old red wine stains.
