Terrible Book Flaw
Why the one star? The book content and designs are outstanding. The unforgivable book failure is the parts list and colors. Additionally, the author does not make a BrickLink prepared parts available. For example with P-38 aircraft design, the 553c dome is used in this and other designs. So, the author specifies the part number and color as 553c-24. If you plug the complete number into BrickLink, the result comes up as not found. This now smells like an old LEGO color that is may be rare or discontinued. Sure enough, the author lists color ID 24 as Old Yellow, which BrickLink no longer lists. The current LEGO palette for color ID 24 is Bright Yellow. I could go on for numerous other specified P-38 parts and odd colors. So, the builder is left to convert the author’s odd color IDs to the current LEGO color pallet. This is time consuming and the thought of giving up does come to mind. This terrible color ID flaw mars an outstanding design book.If you do not plan to build any of the designs, then the book deserves 5 stars.

Great Instruction Book but a little unclear at times
This book was exactly what I needed to fulfill my summer dream of building warplanes with my own legos. I spent the most time on the legendary P-38 Lightning. It was such an advanced model that if I hadn’t known better, I would’ve thought that it was designed by a LEGO designer. I would advise getting your pieces from LEGO.com, because although BrickLink is cheaper, you have to get your pieces from dozens of separate stores, and shipping will get to be 2 or 3 times the cost of the bricks themselves. Use LEGO and you will only have to pay ~$5 in shipping. My one complaint is that the instructions are a bit unclear for the P-38 where you are supposed to have more than one of the modules you are building and where they are supposed to go. I have been building LEGOs for at least 10 years, building some of the most advanced sets, and this gave me a bit of trouble with spotting exactly what was changing from picture to picture. If you are an amateur, I recommend sticking to the less advanced models for more fun.But overall, kudos to Peter Blackert and the amazing designs you will find in this awesome book. Similar books from brick mania can go for $50 to $60. Great value for the money. Highly recommended. I love the individual parts lists and the part appendix, as well as the color code page. The Supermarine Spitfire is a highlight as well as the Blackbird and the P-38.

Great Lego Book
This is a great book with excellent instructions. There are also charts for all the pieces needed for each plane. This is a great book for all ages.
