Purchased this cable based on the many reviews so that I could start converting all my old mini DV, Hi8 and Digital 8 tapes to digital format. Firstly I should say that I had to buy a PCIE card to add 1394 (Firewire) capability to my desktop link addedhttps://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002S53IG8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1The cable itself appears to be well made but I have an issue. The DV connector that connects to the camera is very tight. At first I thought that the camera connector was at fault, but I then connected a second DV camera connection and this was also very tight. So all I can say is be very careful.

Someone else mentioned that this fits very tightly into the socket. When I received it I could not insert it into my DV player or DVD recorder socket - it seemed too big. But when I tried it in my DV camera, I was able to push it in. After that (maybe it got compressed a bit or maybe I just got more confident) I was able to insert it into the other devices. Maybe the angle is important too. I only did a very quick check so far but it seems to work fine.

I bought this to import digital videos from small tapes in the camera to a laptop - they were of similar age so were compatible if I used this cable.It worked a treat. No problems with quality as it did the job. Sad it's obsolete technology.

It is a Firewire/iLink cable as described. It works well with old Sony camera. It looks well made.

I have an old Sony camcorder that I wanted to use to get old recordings off. USB does not work but as soon as I plugged in the Firewire cable it instantly was recognised in Windows 10 and offered to import via Cyberlink Power Director

Brilliant, very happy. Needed to transfer some old dv tapes from a Panasonic mini DV camcorder to my iMacAs long as you make sure you have the right connections for the cable at your computer end or an appropriate adaptor works perfectly with iMovie, you can import and edit to your hearts content.

The cable did not do what I had hoped it would but it is in perfect condition and the seller was quite happy to have it returned for a refund. The seller in realising my situation gave some excellent expert advice on how to resolve my situation and that alone was worth more than the price of the cable.

I am using this cable to connect the DV output on a JVC S-VHS video recorder to the DV input on a Panasonic DVD recorder (both machines being nearly 20 years old) with a view to transferring old camcorder footage on S-VHS and VHS tapes to DVD. The cable works a treat and I am delighted with it, particularly as my 30 year old video tapes have not deteriorated at all in storage.
