I used this valve in the reservoir for a garden watering system. It works perfectly. The float turns water off completely with only slight submersion, which allows easy adjustment of water level. One nice aspect is that the water level can be kept below the hole in which the valve is mounted, so the mount cannot leak. Another thing that I like is that, since the entire thing is plastic, it will never corrode. Attaching the valve to the input hose was a bit tricky for me. The thread is 1/2", and seems to be designed for some sort of compression fitting, but I could not find one that fit. I ended up threading on a 1/2" female pipe thread fitting which works perfectly. To make the NPT fitting seal on the straight thread, I used multiple wraps of yellow gas teflon tape, tapering from thinner to thicker as I wrapped. When the NPT fitting was threaded on, it encountered thicker teflon the further it was threaded, which seems to have cured the lack of taper on the valve threads. Other reviews have mentioned leaking due to debris in the water. True enough, but the same would be the case with virtually any float valve. As long as your water is free of debris, the valve will function perfectly. If your water has debris, you will need a filter no matter what valve you install.
