I only got this book because another class was reading it and I was bored with mine, but this book is so good. I highly recommend it and I think it's a good book for middle schoolers too. It's not too complicated.

Melinda is a teen girl starting her freshman year. She has already become the outcast of her school due to what happened over the summer at a high school party. She barely speaks and relives her nightmare everyday. This book is for teens and up. It is a great conversation starter.

For anyone reading this, buy this book. Trust me. It was so good! I never get interested in books, but this I read in less than a week. I've never seen a character that I relate to as much as Melinda.

My daughter, 13, is NOT a reader like at all. With her being home during this time I did not want her to watch TV all day so we made a list of books to read. She finished this one in one week. ONE WEEK! You do not even know how much of a big deal that is. She was reading for an hour a night and on a flight back home Easter weekend she completed the book. I was in total disbelief. That is how captivating the book was for her. I was so glad she found a book she liked.

My son’s English teacher is having his class read Speak so I decided to read it as well. Finished it in two nights. It felt so real. So honest. You fly through the words with Melinda as she plods through what has to be the worst year on record for a freshman girl. Melinda, even though she is suffering, has a dark and incisive sense of humor about her surroundings. This almost surprises you until you remember that when things are really really bad, if you’re not laughing, you’re crying. I can’t wait to discuss this book with my son. If your school board isn’t supporting this book, I’d recommend looking into that.
