The Gift: Understand and Develop Your Psychic Abilities

A friend of mine who is a medium recommended this book to me with the understanding that it would help me develop more psychic sensitivity. At this point I have read quite a few books written by mediums, both autobiographies and how-to instructional manuals. Aside from the apologetic chapter three, which reassures Christians that they have nothing to fear from mediumship by citing supportive evidence from the Bible, Bodine's book is a hot one. It is to the point, clearly explained, and amply supported with examples. I had my first reading with a medium last September and learned very quickly that communication is conducted very differently from ordinary conversational back-and-forth. What the medium receives consists largely of images, symbols, feelings, and sensory impressions such as odors, tastes, and sounds. These, (usually she) must interpret along with direct communication by words, phrases, or sentences. Her ability depends on her innate gift, and her experience in performing a great number of readings.Bodine describes this process vividly and explains how the medium functions as translator for the spirit contact. Other mediums whose books I have read report their information in a more or less standard conversational form. This is somewhat misleading and can misinform interested readers about how their own psychic abilities may be developed. In other words, the medium's contact with those on the Other Side takes place in a predominantly right-brain context rather than in a left-brain one. This is an important thing to know.If not for the reassurances provided for Biblically-oriented readers (this is the 21st century and plenty of research has already proved the existence of an afterlife and the ability to communicate with others in that dimension), I would have given this book five stars.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Echo writes so beautifully it is like having a friend tell you a story.I'm not religious but I didn't find her references to Christianity or her faith intrusive or pushed on the reader. More of a reflection to her.I do like the exercises presented and feel like they are good practicing tools. Her first hand experience and knowledge is very interesting and insightful to read.I do plan to keep referencing this book in my studies and to read others she had written.

Very simply, Echo explains what it’s like to be a psychic (and what it’s not) and how to recognize if you’ve been blessed. Enlightening information for people just discovering their gifts from Spirit. Echo gives practical information on how to proceed, how to protect yourself but most importantly, how best to be of service and use your gifts for the highest good of all, including yourself.

this book is written in simple terms and easy to apply to myself..Although Im still overwhelmed that I have this ability,but need to know how to understand it. I have had this ability since I was a young child..I wish I could have found people or a place 50 yrs ago that would have allowed me to understand and better develop my abilities so it not be so overwhelming.Its not a book I read everyday since I didn't want to be consumed by it,but it can be easily read in a day if thats what you chose..I read it mostly in the bathroom. So it has taken me sometime to get through it. Some areas could use more detail. I also have several of John Edwards books..I would recommend it to anyone who thinks they have this ability.. you will be able to determine if you really do or not..Its NOT a teaching book,more a book of guidance and understanding.

Just stories. You’re better off watching Dead Files on the Discovery Channel.

The first book I read by Echo Bodine was 'Relax, it's only a ghost'. It was a terrific book - I laughed through it - she's a terrific writer.A few months later, a boatload of psychic abilities turned on all at once - abilities that I wasn't really aware that I had. I began reading all the psychic books I could find, searching the internet for help - needing to learn how to shut the psychic stuff off. I was walking around wide open.As I read 'The Gift: Understand and Develop Your Psychic Abilities' I began to relax. To feel like I could breathe again.Reading one of Echo's books is like sitting across a kitchen table speaking to her directly.While I realize this book might not be for everyone - it definitely helped me.

I really loved this book because it is very informative and practical. I've read a lot of the major books from well known mediums I have learned a lot from them. This book is so practical and easy. So far she is the only one that speaks about earth bound spirits. Maryann Winkowski talks about earth bound but doesn't consider herself a medium. I loved this book from beginning to end. Thank you for writing such a great book.

I've known since I was a young child that I 'knew' things, had dreams and felt a presence around and near me but never understood what any of it meant. Just recently I have felt an inner urging to center myself and embrace my 'gift'. In looking on how to do just that, I came accross this book by Echo Bodine. I felt a nudging to purchase the book. Thank goodness I listened to the nudge! I am now reading this book for a second time, and am centering myself, doing the practice lessons (which I was able to do with 100% accuracy, first time) meditating and embracing what the Creator has bestowed me with...'The Gift'.

A great resource for those looking to engage more with their psychic abilities. Lots of practical advice and exercises, along with Bodine's easy to understand explanations. This is a book I refer to again and again.

I have had psychic dreams, visitations, and premonitions since I was a little girl. Since that beginning, I've had many questions, received many answers, and wondered many things about my gift. Echo Bodine's book gives an understanding of these spiritual gifts and HOW to develop them. I used the activities she recommends with my husband who has not had the same experiences as me, but even he has developed some abilities that he never even knew he had - dreams, intuition, and visions. This is one of the best psychic development books I've ever read. I really recommend it for those who are curious and even experienced.
