A must read for teachers
As an urban teacher in Denver, and now Houston, this book continues to be the Bible of my profession. Kyle brings the real, everyday life experiences of our students to the forefront and it hits you right between the eyes. This book has helped me to empathize with and better understand my students which has allowed me to advocate more for these students and their families. I am a better teacher because of this book. A must read for any teacher or human being. Can't wait for her new one!

Great, eye opening book.
I had to buy this book for one of my college courses, and write a report on it. I usually hate book reports but I really enjoyed this one. It was simple and easy to read and it wasn't overly long with bigger print. It was easy to analyze too. I enjoyed the stories in them and I feel everyone who is going to be working with children (0- high school) should read this book. It is eye opening that not all things are as they appear.

Did not enjoy...
This book is a hard read for me. The title is absolutely misleading. I thought that it would talk more about her experiences with using the prompt, “I Wish My Teacher Knew”. Instead, there is little information about how relationships were built around that question and LOTS of research into how and or why students experience behavioral issues or set backs in school. Not that this information is not good to know as a teacher but if I wanted to read a statistical/research based book, I would rather buy a textbook.

Great read
I absolutely loved this book. Her writing style is clear and approachable, and the content did so much to build my empathy and understanding for the situations my students may be in. The chapters are well organized, supported by research, and even have some good suggestions for helping students who are struggling with really big things. A must-read for teachers everywhere.

Great Resource for Aspiring Teachers
Schwartz and her contributing teachers give practical ways to help students through troubled moments. There are sections covering grief, abuse, food insecurity, switching schools, and more. I loved this book.

Very applicable for teaching today's students
This book starts out with understanding the activity of "I wish my teacher knew..." it then develops into deeper aspects of what our students of all ages face, and ideas of how we could help our community of students be resilient. It is one of the best professional books I've read in a long time. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and ideas! I cant wait to share this title with more teachers!

This book is misleading....
The title of this book is very misleading. Hardly any examples or stories of “I wish my teacher knew.” I had high hopes and was VERY disappointed.

A wonderful story
I bought this book as my summer read and finished it in two days. It’s so heartfelt and has great ideas to implement. I’m excited for next school year.

All educators AND parents should read this book
This book should be read not only by educators, that's a given, but parents too, whether your child is flying through school engaged, or needs help to reach their potential. Having an awareness of what good teaching looks like and the struggles our children's peers may be going through not only put our own children's experiences and education into perspective but our own opinions, labels and perceptions too.

I was expecting a book full of examples from students (maybe like an FML book) but for my taste there hasn't ...
Haven't finished this yet but tbh it had me in tears thinking about the lives some of our kids lead. There's a lot of statistics stuff but I just skim over that and a bit too much Goverment Office for this and State Office for that.... I was expecting a book full of examples from students (maybe like an FML book) but for my taste there hasn't been enough of this.

Kyle Schwartz book
I'm still reading the book and it has given me a different outlook on some things. Obviously it is an American author so the data is based on schools in America but still relatable.

Important for educators
I really did enjoy this book, however, I could only give it three stars because the information inside was not entirely different from many other education and teaching books I have read. I am a high school teacher and have read MANY books on pedagogy, student needs (that go far beyond what we think), and teaching practices and strategies. While this truly is a good book and it started from a wonderful place, I found a lot of the content to be repetitive and not really unique from other books on the same topic.
