Doesn't get a lot simpler to keep your barrel clean. Cleans, scrubs and oils all in one motion, if you follow the directions. Add cleaner to the front end and gun oil at the tail. It has wire scrubs wound into the body. Does it all in one or two swoops.

I own two boresnakes and have different comments for each. My 38/357 caliber snake works really well on all my pistols and revolvers in that caliber. It is not a replacement for deep cleaning, but it is easy to use and very effective at keeping the barrels clean and corrosion free.I also own a 20 gauge snake with which I am less happy. Normally I can pull a snake through a pistol or rifle barrel without assistance, but this 20 gauge snake would not pass through the barrel of my 20 gauge over and under shotgun, even when I enlisted the help of my teenaged son to pull while I held onto the gun. I had to tie the end off to a pole after passing it through the barrel and then pull the snake through. It worked great, but that is a lot of effort for something that is supposed to be a time saver. As an experiment, I ran the snake down the barrel of my 12 gauge and it did a pretty good job on that larger barrel. If you are in the market for a snake for your shotgun, I would second the advice I found elsewhere and buy one gauge down, e.g., buy a 28 gauge to clean a 20 gauge, to ensure utility and avoid giving yourself an injury trying to pull these oversized shotgun snakes through the bore.

The bore snake is quick and easy to use, but doesn't do as good a job as a rod and patches/brush. I put solvent on the front area of the snake (before the brush) and ran it through a couple times. It took a lot of solvent to be wet enough since much soaks into the interior of the snake. Powder crap was sort of "flung" around when the brush emerged from the muzzle, much like running your finger over a wet toothbrush.I then soaked the rear with Remoil and ran it through. It looked very good, with a few grains of powder residue and no visible wad residue. I ran it through a few more times, and it looked fantastic. Total passes was 5 (2 with solvent, 3 with remoil). Awesome, I thought.I then did my usual rod & patch job with solvent and was very surprised at how black the patch was. Normally I need 4 swabs with solvent, and the first patch after using the snake looked slightly cleaner than my normal second patch.In summary, it does a good job of getting the major crud out, though it is messy and takes a lot of solvent. It seems useful if you are shooting a LOT (e.g., a tournament) for a mid-day cleanup or a quick run-through in the field, but I'll be using the rod & patch in the future.

You pull the string, it cleans the barrel. It's simple and it works. I am happy with the quality of the product.
