One of my favorite backpacking meals
I love this flavor, it's in my top 3 of favorite backpacking meals along with Mountain House beef stew and beef stroganoff! Be warned, if you are one who is sensitive to spice this could be too much for you although I would say it's in the mild spice level. I take a packet of chicken and add it to the mix for a extra protein booster on the trail, so delicious!

Wasn't ready for the heat on the trail
This curry has good flavor. I tried one at home, as I always do, before eating it on the trail. Not sure of it was unique to the trail one, or if it was just because things taste different after a long day, but it was SPICY! In fact, a little too spicy for my stomach. My hiking buddy loved it, but I'm gonna stick to the red beans and rice.

Tasty and filling! A welcome change from the usual "comfort food" standards
Really liked this; in the past, most of my freeze-dried "on-the-trail" meals have been pretty standard stuff like biscuits and gravy, stroganoff, chicken alfredo. I really liked having something with a different flavor, more like I eat when I'm at home (I eat a lot of curry and other Indian food as well as food from quite a variety of Asian countries). The lentils made this quite filling. I ate both servings myself in one sitting because I needed the calories after hiking, but I could definitely see sharing this with someone if we also had some other snacks or side items to share (power bars, dessert items, jerky, etc.).Packed thin and light. Needs to sit quite long with the hot water compared to other meals I'm used to (15-20 minutes vs. 9 minutes). But if you realize that and plan ahead, it's not an issue at all, and it was worth the wait! Will definitely order again. I also plan to try some of their other meals.

Add extra water to reduce the overall sodium
Extremely tasty and filling. Having a meal of potatoes and vegetables while camping really makes one feel satisfied and ready for a days hike when compared with the gravy-filled mountain house meat that is typical. The nutrition facts are as good or better, with way more fiber that allows for easy bowl movements in the early mornings. With this one I would recommend adding a bit more water and dumping the remaining broth to avoid too much sodium (if you are worried - you should eat these after a long days hiking). I hiked with a couple of these meals (also the Chana masala) and a few mountain house (chicken fried rice, beef stew), and each night I wanted the backpackers pantry.

Watery when following package directions
Meh. When I think of curry I think rich/creamy, but this is just curry spice. I didn’t find it to be too spicy, maybe a Medium if you eat Thai/Indian. Watery when perfectly following package directions (I would do 1&1/2 cups next time). Good nutrition profile/decent protein for the Vegheads, but it’s not something I’d look forward to eating again and will be saving for emergencies.

Delicious hot AND cold!
I bought the Kathmandu curry (and other freeze-dried meals) expecting to eat 1 meal container per night. I didn't expect my days of hiking to wipe out my appetite as much as it did, so I often only at half the bag at dinner (hot), sealed it up the container and put in my bear bag to hang from a tree, then elected to eat the remaining meal for breakfast (cold). Cold Kathmandu curry after coffee? I was skeptical, but it was still delicious!

Delicious
This is absolutely delicious for a fall camping when it’s a bit chilly out. I split with 2 other friends and it fed us well and we LOVE to eat. I will give a warning shake it up a bit before putting the water and shake with the water. The salt and flavors tend to fall to the bottom so the first few bites were bland and it got very salty at the end for us. But it’s so good and a good hint of spice!
