The cobalt USB powered air pumps are low voltage (5V) DC pumps with an internal battery that provides up to 24 hours of operation during power outages, emergencies, transporting fish, or for fish collecting trips. The pump can run in constant on more or it can operate in a 10 second on and off cycle to extend the battery life when running on internal battery power. All versions will automatically turn on should they detect a power outage.

Emergency Use Only
I bought for emergency air supply only. I WISH I could hookup to the USB stick and have it run off the battery supply longer in event of a power failure but that doesn’t work. The current from USB device is interpreted as power is still on, so air pump doesn’t kick on.. so extra power supply is pointless unless you are home when the power goes out…

Deceptive advertising
Deceptive advertising. Reading the advertising copy I was led to believe that I could buy this and whenever there was a power outage, this would automatically kick in for 72 hours. 24 hours with the main battery plus the 48 hour extra from the extra power bank. This is important because I go out of state for 2-3 weeks at a time and the worst power outage last for 2-3 days here. So I needed something that would come on automatically and last 72 hours. This seems to fit the bill.However, turns out you can only do one or the other: Have it come on automatically or have it last 72 hours. There is one outlet to the main box going out - it can be hooked to the power so it can detect when power is out or it can be connected to the extra power bank. Not both. Someone has to physically be present to add the extra 48 hour power bank once there is an outage. This means my original purpose for buying this - so my fishes can survive a 2-3 day power outage (as I’ve experienced before here) while I’m away on vacation can not be realized with this product.The “1 star” is purely because of the deceptive advertising that isn’t upfront about the limitation of its product.

Great Customer Service!
This is a very well made battery operated aquarium air pump. Yes, I had a problem charging the battery, but the Customer Service was outstanding, quick and friendly. Cobalt Aquatics sent me a return shipping label to return and check out the pump for me. A new unit was sent back to me along with a container of Discus food for my trouble. Customer Service Rep was super helpful. Thank you.

All 3 units purchased failed to turn on when surge protector turned off.
I really wanted these to work. I put a rescue air on each of 3 different aquariums with 3 different surge protectors. I emailed the manufacturer and asked on Amazon community and followed everyone's instructions to test and none of them would turn on from an off state after the battery was charged. They seem to work great on AC, and on battery. The battery charges fine. None of them would turn on from an off state when I tripped the surge protectors to simulate a power outage. A really great idea, but I am afraid to even try to repurchase when ALL 3 that I purchased don't work. :(

Portable.
I used this to transport some fish in a bucket. Plenty strong enough and seemed like it would be fine using in a regular situation.

Great assurance for power outages.
Bought this since we been having a few power outages and of course there hasn’t been any since. Did a few test runs and it works great. Feel much better with having this set up for the next outage.

Lost Power recently.
We lost power recently, the pump kicked in as promised and ran full force for six hours! I plan to purchase three more of these guys. Great product!
