DK Eyewitness Switzerland (Travel Guide)

new format very disappointing
I just received this guide which is in their new format. The guide is no longer clear. Information seems well hidden and oddly scattered. There is a long, rambling, unfocused introduction. An awful lot seems to have been omitted, including the Travelers' Needs section which has been taken out. Their old format was wonderful, concise, beautiful, I could always find what I needed. I think travelers would be better served going with the 2017 version.I hope they return to their original format. When things aren't broken, it really isn't necessary to fix them.

Sad to say I won't buy another DK Guide!
I have been using DK Travel Guide for my vacations for over 25 years. The new format eliminates entirely "Where to Stay" and "Where to Eat" sections. The very informative 3-D diagrams of important sites now consist of no or only few "call-out" photos for details. In the past, I could always count on these "call-out" photos to identify the highlights of the sites when I travel without a guide. What is left is just a listing and short description of places to visit in each town or city. I am sad to say this new format is of no use to me.

Good coverage of a lot of different areas
Good for an overview of a lot different areas. I did supplement this with Rick Steve's guide which I borrowed from the local library. I found the Rick Steve's guide has more detailed information, suggestions, and maps of the Berner Oberland area. But I also preferred the walking maps of the "old town" for the major cities in this book. I recommend this book if you don't know where to start.

Best travel books
I’ve bought DK Eyewitness travel books for a number of years for myself and as gifts. They have never disappointed! This one is great, too. Aside from comprehensive information, the full color illustrations are many and excellent. If you’re hesitant to buy here unseen, check them out at a bookstore and compare to others. I think you’ll agree this series is tops.

The One to Buy
Informative, up-to-date and easy to use. The suggested itineraries are helpful, as are the hotels, bars and restaurant suggestions for each City. I've purchased other travel guides for Switzerland, and this guide is organized the best and contains the most useful information.

Outstanding book.
Although, I have visited Switzerland, this book is filled with visual information, not just words. Maps in detail, neighborhoods, foods, and anything you can imagine that you need for travel to this gorgeous country.. This also applies to the DK Eyewitness Travel Japan that I bought at the same time. These DK travel books also include great history in detail. No other travel book can match the equality of these.

Excellent info for walking tours
I love Eyewitness guides for solid, thorough information on what to see. Plenty of graphics--photos, drawings, and 3-D maps with walking tours--always help me plan my travel. I used the Switzerland guide to plan a short trip to Lucerne and Lausanne. It gave me excellent information to plan a walking tour of the historic districts of both cities. I never use Eyewitness guides as my sole source for planning a trip, but I couldn't plan a trip without them.

great photos
DK guides are great for getting you exciting about a trip; telling you where to go and what to see. I am loving planning a trip to Switzerland using this guide.

Not an inspiring guide book, weaker than the older versions
I have been a great fan of DK Eyewitness Guides, always buying one for every new country I visited. I have a big collection of them at home. Unfortunately DK redesigned the guide books a couple of years ago, and for the worse. The whole book looks and feels cheaper, while price remains the same. The cover is softer, the paper is thinner, the typeface is smaller, the colours are less bright... Even the composition and descriptions are not as lovingly written and curated as in earlier guides. They also removed very helpful "Where to Eat" and "Where to Stay" sections. Maps also became more boring. Not sure why they decided to spoil such a fantastic product and make it look cheap and dull. After 15 years of using Eyewitness Guides I will have to look for an alternative.

Don’t buy this book if you want to know about the Glacier Express
I was most disappointed that there was only one sentence in the entire book mentioning the Glacier Express. Not what I have come to expect from DK travel guides

Not as good as the old version
Something wasn't quite the same as the older DK versions of these books. Was visiting three well known places in Switzerland, but very little information found about them.

Great Travel Advice for Geneva
Loved this book in preparing for our weekend in Geneva. The advice was spot on and helped us make the most out of our time there.
