Jack Vettriano: A Life: New edition Hardcover – April 1, 2012

While not yet a household name,Vettriano increasingly captures an audience. His work is realistic, noir in some ways, recalling images of glamorous and sexy women and handsome men of the 1930's and 1940's and yet with a contemporary flavor. Some of his images are provocative, all are interesting. The cover image, perhaps the artist's best known work, speaks of what is inside. And, while there may be a certain sameness to the work, readers will find themselves returning to the images again and again, intrigued and charmed by what they see.

To any of you who have fallen under the spell of Jack Vettriano's beautiful work, this book is a must have! I started buying Jack's prints about 5 years ago for my wife and recently found that a work colleague is a collector too. I ordered two of these books, one for my wife and one for the co-worker, so that we could explore the full range of Jack's talent. It was a revelation to all of us to see how varied his subjects have turned out to be!

The book was in much better condition than I expected. The thing that blew my away was the small inscription inside. It was from one friend to another as a birthday gift....it noted MY ACTUAL BIRTHDAY!!!! Crazy!

Bought as a gift for my girlfriend, who loves Jack's work. Read the description closely. Two were the same, except one was the updated edition, which includes more recent works. Little bit of text at the beginning of each chapter, followed by mostly full page prints of the work. Great buy if you're interested in Jack Vet

I viewed this book personally in the UK where I live and since my daughter is a big fan of Vettriano, I purchased this book as a present for her. It shows the various aspects of Jack Vettriano's work, both the well known (printed on cards) and the not well known. It is very insightful of the different sides of a wonderful artist, and his work is well represented.

I love the art of Jack Vettriano. This book gives a brief overview of how his style came into being, and shows much of his glorious works. I also like that in the back is a listing of his art showing dates and what pieces were in each show. So glad I purchased this book.

Ever since his butler painting, I have had a huge respect for his art. Upon reading, I learned that it was quite a trip for Jack Vettriano to get to where he is. Great art and background story.

This was not a good used condition. Pages are ragedy and first page i flipped to had pen marks on it.

It is pleasing to note that at least one Scottish gallery- The Scottish National Portrait Gallery -has finally recognised the importance of this artists work by hanging a self portrait.The stupidities,jealousies and disdain of the so called experte of Edinburgh and Glasgow remain with only one gallery in Kircaldy-his home town-showing his pictures.The boook is divided into 4 parts,1987-1993 Tales of love and other stories1994-1996 The passion and the pain1997-2000 Lovers and other strangers2001-2004 Affairs of the heartAll pictures are excellent many demonstrating menace and intense human relations.It is high time the Scottish galleries mounted a retrospective exhibition of this artists work.

It may be "used" but the book is in perfect condition - like new save for excision of the price.It is a fabulous book full of Jack Vettriano's iconic paintings plus interesting text regarding the development of these images.It is far better than I expected.

I love Jack Vettriano - and I love this book, a true coffee table art book, full of wonderful text and photographs of his work. Really inspirational. You get to see the story behind the paintings, can clearly see the brushwork if you're up to copying or if you want to imitate his style of painting! This is a great book about the man Jack, and the history of his painting. A worthwhile buy, a good present if you have an art lover as a friend and want to spoil them!This book is picked up regularly by friends and family alike and they drool over these exquisite paintings. A good size book, a great buy and great paintings!!

This edition only has 182 pages, not 384 as described.Really disappointed as I already had the 182 page edition, so was expecting a lot more.

Most other books I bought have a various umber of his prints but this one is the best of all, certainly the best I bought and the one I keep coming back to over and over again.Love the book!
