The Successful Homeschool Family Handbook

Great for homeschooling (or even just thinking about it)
This book provided lots of inspiration and guidance for my years homeschooling my children. It was the single most useful book I owned or read on the topic, and I read a lot of them and owned quite a few as well.

The Best Book I've Read On Homeschooling
If I were to have just one book on the subject of homeschooling, it would be this book. I found the Moore Formula a great fit for my family's learning style which tends to be more hands-on with limited required study time. It allows for work and service to be used as part of the learning experience. The benefits of this method for us are a more organized and pleasant home, a chance to participate and meet different people through community service and projects, plenty of time for us to pursue our individual interests(Mom included), and the prevention of burn-out for all of us. I can honestly attest that this has worked for us!The book provides some homeschooling statistics, personal experiences and ideas from different homeschooling families, and a basic outline of the Moore Formula which includes a combination of study, work, and service. It provides some suggestions of inexpensive curriculum to cover basics such as math and grammar but are presented as suggestions only.Overall, I found the book to provide just the right amount of detail for our needs serving more as a guide with some examples rather than step-by-step approach.

I haven't even gotten very far in the book, ( hence Ive been Homeschooling), but I've already Highly enjoyed it. I'm a fist time Homeschooler to a 2nd and 5th grader. Both with attention issues and this book has already stopped me from second guessing what I am doing and why. Highly Recommend to New Homeschoolers.

This is a must have book for anyone serious about home-schooling their children.
It is apparent that the authors know what they are talking about. The book is very insightful to the learning and development process of children. All six of my children are home schooling my seventeen grandchildren. I purchased two additional copies of this book for some of them who do not already have the book. Three of my children have or are teaching in the public school system, including my wife who has retired. We have seen and experienced, first hand, the problems of trying to educate children with the masses. Believe me, home-schooling is superior!

Homeschool must
Wish I would've read this book 11 years ago. Of all the books on the subject matter this would be the one to start with. I have recommended it to everyone I know. My parents who are now in their 70's read the book and loved it. The authors were very successful public school teachers, who then decided to home-school their children. If you want to teach your child to be an entrepreneur, give this book a try. So much great information!!!

dated but provocative
info and some parts were "dated," but the positions they took made me think about more areas than I expected in considering how children learn and what is valid as "education..." take each part for what it's worth, and you will take away benefit

Terrible e-book version
I've read the paper back version of the book and found it great informative and inspiring so I've gone ahead purchased the kindle version of it so I could read it anytime. To my shock, kindle version was horrible with typo and inconsistent format. Worse, I couldn't return it because it was pass 7 days of purchase.I would recommend you to get the paper back version and stay clear of the kindle one.

Home Schooling
I haven't managed to read all the book at this time, however it seems to be very easy to follow and comes across with warmth and excitement. I would recommend this book as a reference to any parent starting or thinking about home schooling their children.

Interesting, but...
I got the book because I read about it on another homeschooling website and it was lauded as being great and very useful. I was hoping to read about what things can be done and about actual ways to teach my kids at home. The book was helpful in that it showed that a lot of families can homeschool if they just take the time. What I disliked, in fact very much so, about the book, was that it sounded like an advertisind pamphlet for the Moore's homeschool program, while at the very same time claiming that families don't need to stick to a curriculum made by others. It gave little ideas that can really be applied and insisted too much on the Moore's "better late than early" philosophy, that claims that formal teaching should not happen until as late as 10-12 years old. While I don't agree with everything in this book, it did give me a few valuable clues, which is why I found it all right. I ordered the "Minding your own business" book of the same authors and hope it will be more valuable on a day-to-day basis (I've yet to receive it).
