Are US maps included with this unit or do they need to be purchased separately?

Mine did not have the Garmin US Cycling Maps. It came with the UK Cycling maps. Not useful to me since I live in the US. The unit does come with a base map but it is not useful for navigating. The US Cycling Map coast $50 from Garmin.

What is the difference between the 820 base model and the performance bundle?

Base model only comes with the mounts, performance bundle includes the speed+cadence sensors & HRM monitor.

Has anyone upgraded from the 810? My 810 turns off mid ride every month since I got it. I'm wondering if anyone has encountered this with the 820 yet.

No issues with the 820 thus far. I never really had any issues with my 810 either. It only shut off once after an extended rest stop mid-century.
