This one's tough, and it keeps on working...
I bought one of these several months ago. Then I switched to another make with sound, but that quit in a day. So it was back to this make and model. In the first photo you see that the decoder comes with an 8pin plug. This is because some locos come DCC (Digital Command Control) Ready, and you can just plug the decoder in and program. If your loco isn't DCC Ready (what this decoder is designed to do), you just cut off the plug, and carefully following the NMRA standard wire color coding, hook the decoder up to the track pickups and the lights. Your loco will then be DCC, and able to detect DCC control codes sent through the rails. This allows several locos to run on the same track, each obeying their owners' commands. You'll notice in the second photo that the blue shrink wrap is torn. That was when the decoder stopped working to control the two lights I hooked up to it. Probably my fault that a short probably cooked the tiny circuit that powered the lights. But the damaged decoder kept working to run the motor. I bought another of the same decoder, and it has been working very well, including powering those lights. In the second photo you can also see a socket in a red circle. This looked very familiar, and I realized it would fit another brand's backup power source, called a Current Keeper. I've tried it, and sure enough it saves up about a minute of power to keep the lights going, but its main feature is that if your loco hits a bit of dirty track, you loco will roll right thru it.All in all I trust this decoder. Too bad it doesn't have sound, but that costs a lot more. I'm still working on that.

Had to buy 2!
So good for small engines like Bachman dcc ready 4-4-0, had to buy a extra one for future dcc installations!

They simply work
pretty much as close to "plug and play" as you can get here. Most "quick plug" decoders clip right up to these.Im part of a club that has a Digitrax / JMRI operated layout. running is as simple as opening the locomotive roster, creating a new locomotive, and done.I like running early diesel HO scale stuff, which usually involves multiple (2-8+) locomotives pulling a train. These are also pretty easy to speed match, so that they all cooperate with eachother, regardless if the train theyre on are aethearn, bachman, or whoever. There are obviously fancier options, but this is my go to, for getting something to be DCC

Nice Decoder
It worked after I installed it, no problems. Digitrax makes some very nice products for the hobby.

It works very well
It's a original digitax product so it works as expected for a new board

Perfect product shipment late
Fast shipment advertising was not executed as promised the 'shipping partner' blame game was played.
