Go to your ecu first and confirm what needs to be wired on the drivers side to the ecu. Plan your install based on what has already been pre wired. The switch had 2 wires off of the top that led to a clip. The switch, that was bulky because of the wires and clip, had to be screwed in to the top clutch switch mount. The wires broke off when I tried to screw the switch in. I had to solder two other wires on, wrap the soldered wires around the switch, then there was enough room to screw the switch in. I then connected the soldered wires to the wires that broke off. 4 stars because of that. I also had to splice one of those wires into the truck ignition, and the other into the ecu harness. Oh, and tacomas have two clutch switches, this is an install for the upper, don't mess with the existing lower.

technical support
instructions could have been better written. after installing the cruise control unit and disingage switch on clutch peddle the set speed would not work. I contacted their tecnical rep and he told me which areas i should check for voltage' I found a bad canection on the power source, which was my mistake. Fixed problem and unit worked great.

don't bother if you have a 2010
At first I was careless when installing it and thought the wires would hold up if I just spun the disengagement switch into its pre-mounted threaded nut. I was wrong and the wires broke right off, so I figured my bad, I'll buy another one. Took my sweet ass time with the second one, removed everything I possibly could to get my hands in there, took about 3 minutes just to get one rotation while carefully manipulating the wires with the switch and after 4 turns the wires broke off the top again. I have a 2010 tacoma and there's just no physical way this thing will stay in tact while putting it in place, there's just no room for it to work with the wires and harness being that cumbersome. I looked at my buddies 2001 and it would've taken me five seconds to install, so make sure you look at how much room you have to work where the clutch lands. I ended up just bypassing the switch by connecting the green and blue wire and eating the $100. not the sellers fault at all, just a cheap ass product by rostra.

Required for install? Methinks not.
I installed a kia rio cruise control from rostra. It has this listed as a required part for a manual transmission rio -- and i am assuming for many other manual vehicles. This being a universal kit it may or may not be an awquard install. I chose to return it because in the rio it is A)bulky and the install clumsy, requiring "eyeballing" for fitment and B) it is in no way necessary for the cruise control to work. What this switch does is cancel your cruise control from being set when you press the clutch. This is in addition to the default method of brake-cancelling which is what rostra kits do anyway. Yes, the engine may rev a little if you forget to initiate the brake first or use the on off button on the cruise control stick. Not an issue for me. After laying on my back under my steering wheel for 4 hours installing a rostra cruise control kit with poorly designed and sometimes impossible installation instructions i was not in the mindset to put in this clutch switch. It gets 5 stars because it will undoubtedly work for those who view this as necessary for installing a safe system or if you're installing for another person's car. But if you are installing it in your manual kia rio save the $40 and buy yourself some beer to get through installation of the CC.

Warning, you'll need Rostra tech support.
The switch is long with a stiff "Pigtail" impossible to install without breaking off wires. If you plan to use the "Universal" mounting bracket make sure you have something to mount it ON before purchase. Toyota Tacoma does not. Threaded portion of switch is 1 1/2" requiring many rotations which twist pigtail. Suggest drill out 10MM threads on Clutch peddle stop bracket, larger than switch threads. Slide threaded portion of switch through drilled out bracket and lock in place with two Jam nuts supplied in kit. No rotation on switch no twisted off wires. Instruction paper does not tell where to splice wires to. Dead end without tech support.

Easy to install
Followed the instructions, works just as it should, the wiring diagram could be a little clearer but figured it out and is just fine.
