When is book 9 coming out??
Another remarkable book in the Irene and her team series! In this book the team is inundated with several murders. Irene has a new Superintendent who pays far too much attention to the male members of the team, and very little at all to the women. The Superintendent is flirty, slick and smart. Two young teenage girls have been found dead - and mutilated. Another corpse has been found walled up in a demolished building. The team takes to calling this one "The Mummy." With one member of the team gone and vacations impending, Irene and her team are overwhelmed. The new Superintendent tricks the Cold Cases Unit into taking the Mummy case. They strongly suspect and then learn that the young girls are being found via the internet. When solid evidence links the two deaths, the team hopes to set a trap for "Mr. Groomer."The book goes back and forth between the two investigations. When the denouement comes, it comes very fast.We have brief interludes with riveting information about Irene's personal life. This book is extremely well written and plotted. Ms. Tursten is in her element here. I very much look forward to book number 9!!

" What I like most about Tursten's stories is her ability to show ...
The "treacherous net" in the title of this novel, Helene Tursten's eighth in her Detective Irene Huss series, actually refers to two nets. As part of Gothenburg's Violent Crimes Unit, Det. Huss must find the killer of two young girls who were lured to their deaths via an Internet chat room. At the same time, Sven Andersson, Huss' former boss and current member of Gothenburg's two-man cold crimes unit, races against the clock to solve a murder committed in 1983, but only recently discovered, before the statute of limitations takes effect. Andersson's only clue is a cryptic reference to "The Net."What I like most about Tursten's stories is her ability to show Huss' many roles... those of a police detective, wife, mother, and in this story, once again as a devoted daughter. Through the eight stories to date, the reader has been witness to the many challenges of raising twin daughters and keeping a loving family together while at the same time dealing with aging parents. I like the Huss family, and I was disappointed this time out with neither her professional dealings nor with the family dynamics. There are two more books in the series that haven't yet been translated into English. Until then, I'll patiently wait.

Another Strong Showing by Detective Inspector Irene Huss
This is another strong entry in an unusually satisfying series. For me, two things make Detective Inspector Irene Huss stand out among the legions of Scandinavian police people -- she's not depressed, and she has an interesting and involving personal life. Those patterns persist in this latest outing, though the tone is a bit darker than in some of the earlier stories: Irene's daughters have left home, her mother is failing, and she has problems with her new boss. But Irene soldiers on. This time, the central focus is on a killer who entraps young girls over the internet; tracking him down and setting him up is a gripping story. There is a subsidiary story centered on a long-dead body found walled up in a collapsed building -- was he part of another sort of net, a net of spies? All in all, a very satisfying read.

2 plots in one
I usually love all of the DI Irene Huss books, but this one was unusual, and in my opinion, not as good.It was divided literally into 2 separate investigations by 2 different departments of the Goteborg police. The current day mystery of a serial sex killer, investigated by Irene Huss and her colleagues, was an interesting one and moved along. The completely separate second plot line covered an investigation of 2 old murders by the Cold Case Division; it seemed to drag, and since the chapters were interspersed with those of DI Huss's case, it kept her storyline from progressing at a good steady pace.

Another Exceptional Inspecter Huss Novel
This is the best Irene Huss novel yet. It is not as gripping as some of the others, but there is a lot of insight as the two crime cases unwind and are juxtapositioned against Irene's personal life.and the inevitability of aging and change. Ms Tursten is a very good writer and is able to keep one excited as well as introspective. Bittersweet is the word that comes to mind when discussing this book. I highly recommend it to mystery fans everywhere.

different ages - different "nets"
Helen Tursten great as usual :)This is a great series ... I love the character of Irene Huss. In this story we catch up with Irene's personal and professional life. I won;t give away the details thoughThere are two story lines - the one Irene is involved in (teen age girls being lured by a predator on the internet) and the story is about her ex-boss who is counting the days until his retirement working on a cold case - one in which "the net" was mentioned - way before the internet was invented.

Good to see Irene Huss Back, But..
I am a fan of this series, I like both the precedural aspects as well as the character development at home and at work. This one shortchanges the procedural aspect, the back story crime is far more interesting than the supposed main event. Overall the tone is somber, there is a lot of sadness and death and Irene seems to be drifting, at work and at home. Maybe this is a transitional book, a reset to provide a new setting for Irene's future. We will see how it turns out.

Chef's addition
I have enjoyed the Huss series. Huss is presented as a driven Inspector, yet manages to maintain a solid marriage, with balanced kids. Unusual for most of her peer Scandinavian authors. Her husband is a talented chef and the meals discussed sound intriguing. Helen Tursten should consider authoring or co-authoring a cook book referring various dishes her book has discussed.

One of the best
Much better than the last Inspector Huss novel. Difficult to put down. Highly recommended. Hope Inspector Huss replaces Sammie in the next one.

Good. Not great.
This is a good book, like others in the series, but perhaps not a great book. It concerns the death of two young girls and their apparent procurement through the internet.
