Emily

I love any books illustrated by Barbara Cooney; this book is well-authored and has excellent art. The story is sweet, historical, and engaging. I am trying to stockpile my kids' library with quality stories such as these. The packaging was disappointing as it was shipped in an envelope vs. box and there was no cardboard protection for the soft pages. Upon arrival one corer was slightly torn and a good chunk was bent backward. This is a bit disappointing as kids put enough ware and tare on books as it is so getting an already worn upon book was a bummer. I put the book under some heavy items to smooth it out, since I just had my third child and am not taking the effort to return this purchase, which is 100% my choice.

I liked learning more about Emily Dickinson's childhood. I think her poetry is great. Emily Dickinson is someone I am a big fan of!

I saw this book in the school library when I was a preschool teacher and instantly fell in love with it. It's beautifully written with gorgeous artwork. I immediately bought it as a gift for my Emily Dickinson loving sister who absolutely loved it.

When I flipped through this book by myself before reading it to the kids, I thought "they are going to be so bored with this." But I was very surprised when my girls (ages 6, 5, and 2) were riveted through the entire story! The language is so lovely, the story feels bittersweet -- it instantly became one of my 6-year-old's favorite books ever."I looked down at the paper in her lap."'Is that poetry?' I asked."'No, you are poetry. This only tries to be.'"Magical.

One of my 7-year-old's favorite books (and also outside her comfort zone) and one of my favorites to read with her. Just a lovely story. It sparked her interest so much that we're going to visit the Dickinson home this summer.

Emily Dickinson is my favorite poet. This book is a charming introduction for young people to the eccentric character of Emily. I have read it to my second and third graders. Then I share anecdotes about her life and poems.

Beautiful writing and has en element of mystery to it. I recommend reading to all 3-5 year olds.

I got it for my grandaughter Emily. She thought it was something that a book was named after her.
