TExES Core Subjects EC-6 291 Book: TExES Study Guide & Practice Test Questions for the Texas Examinations of Educators Standards (291)

I really like this study guide because it gives a thorough and comprehensive overview of the TExES Core Subjects EC-6 291 exam. It is very detailed in covering all the subjects that will be on the exam as well as providing a practice test with questions and answers and explanations to each answer. I appreciate how it is user friendly and in-depth on covering all the subjects for the exam. It actually makes studying for this exam fun and I would recommend it to others.

This guide is wonderful if you are looking for something to help you pass your exam. Because of this book, I was able to pass my EC-6 exam the first time! This book is very through within each content area and even goes into detail about certain teaching practices. Furthermore, the practice questions at the end of each section are perfect in modeling what the real exam will be like. Overall I was happy with my purchase and I highly recommend this guide to help you study for your certification exam.

It seems well organized and thorough. At the end of the book, it allows you to request a free study CD. It gives specific instructions about how to request/receive that CD. But then after you follow those instructions, they still won’t send you the CD until you respond to their email about whether or not you want a pen. I like the study guide and I appreciate the offer for the free study CD. I wish they would just send it though instead of requiring additional steps not listed in the back of the book.

I am very thankful, that this study guide was available for purchase! I am currently in an ACP with Region 14. There was so much content knowledge, in this guide that I feel will really benefit me. I didn’t grow up in Tx as we are military, so I didn’t have all the Texas history growing up. There as a lot of good content knowledge throughout this book, and I feel more confident in taking my content test next month (July).

The TEXES Core Subjects EC-6 291 is a great and wonderful study guide. In my opinion, this book is well organized and straight to the point. Also, I think it will help me with passing the TEXES exam.

I used this product to study for the TX-291 exam and I liked the detail that it provided. Other study guides just explained math terms but this one actually gave math problems to work out and explained common core. The practice tests are accurate with the number of questions on the test. I still wouldn't use this alone because everything on the test isn't in the book but it's a great start

I think it’s great so far! I’m just starting and the information is cohesive. It’s going to be an asset as I’ve only tutored and not had a classroom full time in a while.

So... I wanted to wait until I had taken the exam before I put a review on this book. Here is what I think: 1. ELAR: This part is quite good. I would say, the best of the wole book. Pretty much all of the content is explained, and even if you may need to further look for some material, if you master the content of the ELAR part, you should do fine. 2. Maths: I have to give this part a bad mark. Here is the main reason why: the practice exam only focuses on content questions (and mainly on equations), whereas A LOT of questions in the actual exam are on pedagogy and teaching instruction, as well as on the TEKS. Apart from that, the content taught in the math section is pretty good, apart from a whole part on trigonometry (cosinus, sinus, etc.), which does not fall on the exam. 3. Social studies: This part is pretty good, although a lot of important information is not mentionned. 4. Science: Same, this part is pretty good, but once again, a lot of things that will fall on the exam are not covered in this book. 5. Arts: This part is also pretty good, most of the stuff is covered, even though not so much into details. Now, regarding my exam, first of all, I passed it all on the very first time. But I have to say that I decided to also purchase this book: "TExES Core Subjects EC-6 (291) Book + Online (TExES Teacher Certification Test Prep)", by Luis Rosado, as I had the feeling that I was missing some imortant content. And I'll tell you what... The latter book is, by far, the best. I received it one week before the exam, and I completely left aside the book I am reviewing now. The book by Rosado covers all the content you need to know in most parts. It at least definitely covers everything the other book covers, and much more. I think that if you only buy Rosado's book, you'll pass on the first time. Also, let me advise you to use the Youtube channel of the Khan Academy to study THE WHOLE science part, and some of the social studies one. This youtube channel is a non-profit organization whose founder, Khan, gives brilliant 10 to 15 minutes classes on every single concept you need to master in science, and most of the social studies one. Just type "atom compostition khan academy" on Youtube, and you shall see... Finally, wikipedia is of great help to better understand some stuff and learn more on the history of the US since the 7 years war up to today. Summary: -Use Luis Rosado's book "TExES Core Subjects EC-6 (291) Book + Online (TExES Teacher Certification Test Prep)", or both books, but not only the one I am reviewing. You'll be short on knowledge. - Use the Khan academy channel (eventually make a donation if you pass), and wikipedia, to find info on dates, battles, treaties, amendments, etc. - Do as many practice exams as poss. Luis Rosado's book has 2 full exams which you can do online, in real exam conditions, and I also bought a full 240 tutorial practice exam on Amazon too (CORE Subjects EC-6 Practice Test: A complete CORE Subjects EC-6 Practice Test). Following these 3 steps, plus eventually the material from your EPP (mine is Texas Teachers), and obviously studying a minimum, you will be ok. Do bear in mind that no matter how many material you buy, there will always be some questions in the exam on stuff you never heard of before. Try and review the TEKS (I hardly reviewed them at all...) as you may have 2 or 3 questions on them. PD: if you want to be an elementary bilingual educator, Luis Rosado also wrote a book on the bilingual supplement exam. I bought it, never opened it, still passed. So save the money ;)

First i would say that is a good book summarizing the most important topics that you can find on the test. The only issue that i found was with the music part because it Was just with few Pages and i remember when i did the test there were a lot of questions about music. By the way i am not an english native speaker so it is a little harder for me to understand everything, but i feel this book covers a lot of the material that you can find in the test. This is my second attempt so hopefully this time i will pass.
