Cooking Korean Food With Maangchi - Books 1&2: From Youtube To Your Kitchen Paperback – November 13, 2008

I've been a faithful follower of the website for a few years, and finally decided to thank Maangchi for all her hard work by purchasing her book. I was so happy with it that now I'm buying a copy for my sister in law, who like me spent time in Korea and learned eat, but not to cook, Korean food. This book is absolutely excellent for the beginner. The directions are easy to follow and the pictures and descriptions of the ingredients, as well as some suggested substitutes (and some warnings about unnaceptable substitutes!) really takes out the guesswork and stress.I have actually taken the book with me to our local Asian grocery stores to inquire about a specific ingredient or two, and they were able to easily help me find the products I needed. If you need more help, you can look up some of the recipes on youtube and watch Maangachi cooking them herself, so you can learn techniques and what things should look/feel like. If you still have questions, you can go to her website and she'll answer them personally!! The only reason I give the book four stars instead of five is that for the price, I would have liked to have seen more recipes, although you do get most of the basics.As an added bonus, due to the nature of Korean cooking the recipes are dairy free and mostly egg free as well, so they can be easily used for allergy households. There is also a good selection of recipes that either contain no meat or can be made without meat.

This cook book is so so . The way how the cook book look like it seems like some of the text book at school. ! Inside the book the pictures are realistic its pretty organized i say. Some pages are kind of hard to skim through probably i haven't used this book . Aww i spoiled some information about the book. Well keep going maangchi ! i do love watching your videos especially the kimchi videos you post on youtube i saw it!!!!!!!! and the korean noodle cooking. !

Happy to have this book!!! Yes it's not well designed like many books on the market. But how many books have a YouTube channel to help you? How many books have heart in them? I have searched for a Korean cookbook to help me explore the culture and none have caught my attention like this author! I am happy that I waited to buy!!! I'm looking forward to her "polished" book coming out in May 2015!!!!

I was so happy to find that Maangchi had finally published her recipes in a book. I use to follow her on her site and YouTube, printing her recipes so that I could make her dishes (I keep fresh made kimchi on hand). I was stationed in Seoul, Korea in the late 70's and developed a passion for Korean food. Luckily, I have an Asian supermarket close by with the ingredients readily available. I have already prepared a few dishes from this book and plan to try many more!

I have used several of her recipes from the website and decided to buy the book. I got it about a week ago and have made 5 or 6 dishes. They all turned out perfectly! My husband is Korean and her recipes make very authentic tasting food. I have tried many different korean recipes - hers are by far the simplest and the best! My only complaint is that it is a very small book. It's kindof like a pamphlet. It is still worth it, and I am planning on buying book 3 soon!

I lived in Korea for three years and love the food so if you are looking for real Korean food this book is a must buy

I watch Maangchi on YouTube for her tutorials. She is so down to earth, cute and fun. I didn't hesitate to order her cookbook. It comes with illustrations and step by step clear instructions. Everything is delicious! I'm half Korean and know how to cook a lot of stuff but still have a lot to learn.

I found Maangchi on youtube while looking for a traditional pickled radish recipe. I tried it and it is as good, if not better, than some Korean restaurants in the greater NYC area. You can't go wrong with her book. Her videos are simply amazing. I have several Asian cookbooks and one just for Korean cooking and this one beats them all. Get this book!

Lovely book that even shows the packaging of the condiments and supplies, that you would need tobuy. This helps novice Korean cooking aficionado in a daunting world of Korean supermarket shopping.It is a smaller book than you would imagine. Closer to A5 size.The "Book 1&2" and its price does mislead you in thinking that this would be a chunkier book.

I may be biased because of my love of Korean food, but everything I've made has been awesome.Love the book!Shipped on time and in good condition.

Meine Lieblingsköchin auf Youtube! Endlich hat sie ihr eigenes Kochbuch! Ich habe inzwischen sogar schon was daraus gekocht. Sie erklärt auch wo man die Zutaten kaufen könnte. Dazu gibts Bilder, damit man es noch leichter finden kann. Besser gehts nicht! :D
