Big pictures of the different stitches!
I really like this crochet guide. Not only does it have patterns but it has a nice variety of stitches. Te big color pictures hep you lean how the stitch is supposed to look! Very helpful!!!

If it were spiral bound, it would literally be the perfect book.
I love, love, love this book! It explains things in easy to understand ways, has great pictures and charts (which I don't use, but I notice that they are important to many other reviewers), and a wide range of crochet stitches are presented. The couple projects are cute, or at least with patience and what you learn in the book, you could easily change them to your taste.I had originally gotten A to Z of Crochet-The Ultimate Guide for the Beginner to Advanced Crocheter. I have to say that while A to Z is a helpful book (particularly if you had never done crochet before), Complete Photo guide to Crochet includes as much beginner information as A to Z Crochet does, then takes you beyond basic stitches to a marvelous place of late nights and spending a rediculous portion of your paycheck on yarn (I have an obsession!). (I know this is a review for the Complete Photo Guide to Crochet, but as a side note, A to Z Crochet is also a good book, however, it dumbs things down a little too much for me...if you were a complete beginner, it makes an extremely informative manual...as for its claim to be the ultimate guide for beginner to advanced crocheters, I disagree. Once you get passed basic crochet, you may find the crochet instructions in A to Z Crochet a bit tedious.)The only even remotely negative thing I can say is that a spiral binding would be nice. If you're like me and don't mind putting a crease mark in the book's binding (books are meant to be used and loved!), you won't have any complaints at all...besides, if you buy it on Amazon, you save so much money that if you wanted, you could just go pay to have it spiral bound...This is a great book, and fyi, its sister book Complete Photo Guide to Knitting is just as good...I can't wait to get the Complete Photo Guide to Sewing...then, I may never leave my house again!

One of the best gifts I've ever given myself!
I've been a crocheter for almost 50 years. This book has been a great joy to own. I am not a designer, but every once in awhile, when I cannot seem to find a pattern that I'm looking for, whether it be on Ravelry, where I'm a member, or on YouTube, I reach for this book for inspiration. This book is basically a STITCH DICTIONARY, not a book of patterns (although there are one or two in the book). Basically shows a picture of what the stitch will look like, then shows a stitch chart, and gives directions for how to execute the first few rows. You take it from there. It's fun to play with, and try out different stitches. I've used it to create blankets, scarves, shawls. It would also make a great gift for someone who loves crochet.

Amazing New Color Crochet Reference Guide
This is an amazing crochet reference book, and in my opinion, it really is the Complete Photo Guide to Crochet. This book has so much information about crochet. And, best of all every page has an example of each crochet stitch in large format color photos with written instructions and stitch diagrams. A note on the book states that there are over 400 color photos, and I would believe it. For visual learner, the color photos are a big bonus as most books don't have color photos of all the stitches. There are examples showing completed projects like afghans, motifs, shawls, clothes, etc. The colors are beautiful and up-to-date with current colors and textures. You cannot beat Amazon's price for this book having 272 pages of color examples. This book has lots of inspiration and reference for the more than beginner, intermediate and experienced crocheters as well as being a good reference book for a beginner to grow into and experiment. It's so helpful having a color photo, stitch diagram and instructions with each example. The following is a list of the chapters to give you an idea of how much is in this book:CROCHET BASICS:Crochet Hooks and Other ToolsTechniquesCrochet InstructionsDetails and Finishing TechniquesSTITCH PATTERNSBasic StitchesShell StitchesBobbles, Popcorns and PuffsRipple StitchesLace StitchesMesh StitchesColor CombinationsHeavy TexturesUnusual StitchesMotifsEdgings and TrimsTunisian StitchesSPECIALTY CROCHET METHODSTapestry TunisianOne Piece, Top DownBruges LaceIntermeshing CrochetPolish StarOverlay CrochetFreeform CrochetHairpin LaceBroomstick LaceThis would make a great gift for the crocheter in your life. my most-used crochet book!
I purchased this book as a brand-new crocheter and I loved it! Even now, as an accomplished crocheter who sells my items, I reach for this book to add new twists to items. This book contains loads of gorgeous photos, simple instructions and, as one reviewer noted, it is not full of weird patterns for crocheted bikinis and the like. I have created several scarves using the patterns contained in this book and I get LOADS of compliments on them! The book mostly contains pictures and patterns for particular stitches (not finished items) so it's great for learning the different stitches and incorporating them into your own patterns. I would recommend this book to all crocheters, regardless of skill level.I will note that this book does NOT contain British crochet terms, however I find that helpful (even though I live in the UK) since it seems the rest of the known universe uses the terms contained in this book and only British crochet uses the terms it uses. Learning the 'American' terms (a misnomer, really, since it seems most other places use the same terms) has made me able to purchase patterns online from all over the world and understand them without needing to translate them. I'm glad I didn't start off by learning the British terms! Saying that, though, I can see how it might be confusing to someone who only knows the British terms. I really would suggest that those truly interested in crochet learn the 'American' terms as it opens up so many more pattern possibilities!

Still can't crochet...
I really want to learn to crochet and this book's reviews suggested that it helped even total beginners to crochet beautifully. Sadly that must have been the case until I came along. I am a reasonably intelligent lady who can follow instructions but alas, someone during the first few pages it lost me and apart from a long piece of attractive rope I have achieved nothing and am about to look for a real live person who can sit with me and show me what to do. Beautiful things in there to make if you can master it, and lovely clear pictures etc hence still giving it 3 stars even though it didn't help me achieve what I wanted.

Absolutely wonderful!
From beginners to more advanced, this books covers everything I could possibly ever need. I love the large photos and clear instructions - just what I need to get me going properly. I have already made the basics, so for me this book is ideal to get me on to the harder stitches and making things other than scarves and blankets.I love the stars and flowers included - definitely recommended and I would have paid up to about £30 for the book - bargain for me at under £12!!!!

What a great book!!!!
This definitely deserves the 5 star rating, as it’s just the book I was looking for, as I’m a Newbie who’s just learning this beautiful art form/craft!!The photos are just sooooooooooooooooooo helpful as you can actually see, just what the stitch you are trying to learn should look like, rather than an artists impression!I would definitely recommend this as it's just unbeatable value for money!

Complete Photo Guide to Crochet
This book is one of the best I have come across in over 40 years of crocheting. It is clear and the pictures are great. The instructions are easy to follow and I have recommended it to my daughter, whom I have just started to teach the art of crochet to.
