Flavor:Red  |  Size:80 oz (5 lb) Grown in the remote hillside jungles in the Kingdom of Cambodia, along the Gulf of Thailand, these Rare Peppercorns are tended by hand on mountain slopes, and manually picked from March to July. Each batch is traceable to the grower. The European Union has designated Kampot Pepper as a Geographic Indication, with protected status to ensure authenticity, purity, traceability and sustainable organic farming methods. Our Kampot Pepper is Certified Organic. Red is extremely rare pepper, with yearly production of less than 4 Metric tons. The Red flavor profile is delicate and gentle, but with an explosive finish. The Red Peppercorn variety of Kampot Pepper is very hard to get, requiring intensive manual labor to harvest. Red peppercorns (not to be confused with Sczechwan pepper, or pink pepper), has to picked within one day of turning red on the vine, otherwise the corn will turn black. Each drup matures at a different rate, so red peppercorn pickers must process each plant daily, plucking the perfectly red peppercorns. Even though the growers get up to 50% more for Red, they are reluctant to offer it because of the intensive labor. Supplies this year extremely limited.

WHERE HAS THIS BEEN ALL MY LIFE
I ordered this pepper a little over a year ago and have kept it hidden from my wife. She would use this on boxed mashed potatoes, unaware that this is priced like gold. I accidentally spilled some on my floor while putting them in my pepper mill. The 5 second rule was out the window. I picked every last one up and pretended it never happened. With that being said, I use this pepper on very rare and deliberate occasions. It is unlike any other pepper I have ever used. The aroma that hits you as soon as its cracked is life changing and if you weren't into pepper before, this will open a whole new world for you. I have since researched pepper exhaustively and learned lots of things I never new before. Most people never thought of using pepper on desert, well guess what, after some research you are going to want to crack some red peppercorns over vanilla ice cream. And the red peppercorns we see here in the US are actually not peppercorns. They are berry's of another plant family. The real red peppercorns are the ripe end of a life cycle from these Kampot, Cambodia plants. They are much more rare than what most people believe and very difficult to find here in the US.With that being said, I have become excited about Kampot, Cambodia pepper and it all started with an Amazon order from this company. Finding these peppercorns from other companies has proven extremely difficult and unless you want to call some Cambodian Farmer and order 100 Kilos, this Amazon affiliated company is the place to purchase..

Heavenly aromatic, deliciously spicy, and trying it will commit your palate.
OK, I now have a $25-a-month pepper habit; this stuff is addictive! In any side-by-side comparison, the typical grocery spice brands offer up pale aroma and taste in comparison to this product. Others peppers may elicit a sneezing response, but even if ground finely (why would you do this?), you get a wonderful pepper fragrance instead of nasal irritation. A little of this ground coarsely enlivens eggs, salads, sandwiches, sliced tomatoes, anything you would put pepper on, to a degree not tasted before. It is not just a strength of flavor although you’ll probably use less than with regular peppers. It is more of a freshness or intensity of flavor that does it. I’ve tried using the Kampot pepper in some cooked dishes like chili but I’ve concluded I’m wasting money by doing so. Far better to use Kampot as fresh-ground at time of serving to really enjoy it and the foods it enhances. And yes, like me you’ll likely buy a new pepper grinder set to “coarse” for this special spice.

Flavor is noticeably stronger and richer, so is the price...But I'm buying it again!
The peppercorns are a little smaller and darker than the usual peppercorns I buy at the grocery store and very consistent in size and color. The flavor is noticeably stronger and richer. Definitely top quality pepper. Whether or nor it is worth the price difference is up to the individual. I certainly do not regret trying this and may reorder when I use it all up.Update January 2016 - I used it all and then switched back to a good quality Tellicherry whole pepper. It's just not the same. I am reordering!

Love this pepper
Love this pepper! Worth the cost. My wife recently found out that she is allergic to night shades and can no longer eat spicy/hot foods that she loves. We have been trying to find alternatives to the heat from hot peppers and stumbled upon these pepper. It's not hot like a habanero or a jalapeño, but it is sharp and very flavorful. It has a distinct taste unlike any other pepper I have eaten.

Great splurge buy. We love.
This is an item that has to be experienced to fully be appreciated. It is hard to describe in words just how different and striking this pepper is. My husband loves pepper and I wanted to treat him, so I researched fine peppers and discovered this kind that is preferred by many gourmet chefs worldwide. It really is worth the extra money as a splurge item to me. There is nothing like freshly ground pepper compared to store bought preground that even may have additives in it. The uniqueness of Kampot puts it over the top. I really love also that it is organic. An extra boon for sure. Thanks!

Like Nothing Else!
I'd been looking for peppercorns that weren't sourced from either china or india (can't trust any food products from those two countries any more) and was sent here from google. nice surprise. I ordered a 4 oz. bag of these and now I'm putting it on everything. I toast them in a dry wok until fragrant and then put them in my pepper grinder. Absolutely incredible essence from this stuff, just a wonderful very unique aroma. I love it. and so do my dinner guests, it's been the secret ingredient in my pork shoulder rub. Dances on the tongue and through the nose. Just try some, its really good.

My family and I have been hooked on the black, red, and white Kampot peppercorns from Indochine Spice Company for several years now. I taught culinary arts before retiring and my adult kids, all very respectable cooks, and I rate the Kampot as the very best. The peppercorns are large and fragrant with a complex flavor. Yes, expensive but worth the price considering how far a pound will go and relative to other food costs.
