The book is poetic and referred to by a friend Bill who encouraged me about the ways of the land.

This is the book that got me into Gary Snyder. I had heard if him through books about the Beat Generation. And also read about him in Kerouac's The Dharma Bums. Now i have read almost every book he ever write. He is abtrue genius. This book won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1975, and rightfully so. Usually that award goes to a more conventional conformist type of book of poetry. It was good to see the Beat writers finally being recognized by the mainstream world of poetry. And the book is great. I always say Gary Snyder was the first environmentalist.

I've long found Snyder's words evocative, compelling, provocative. Turtle Island seems to recapture ancient wisdom, connecting with the modern. His truths become clearer with each passing day, even more relevant than when when.

This was an interesting read, and a great way to start thinking about my own nature writing. I liked how many of the poems are short so you can switch gears and flip around the book if you want.

Just discovered Gary Snyder after hearing him in an interview on NPR. A must-have book for your collection, if you are a fan as I am.

This is one of my favorite books by my favorite poet of all time. I'm almost elderly, so I've read a lot of poetry in my life. Somehow this disappeared from my collection and I was frantic until I replaced it. Thank you for your prompt and efficient service.

A set of deceptively simple poems that pierce the heart. Written with hope, many years ago, the wisdom contained in this book has been ignored by our leaders which makes them more poignant. I have read this many many times and still pray that we have time to take the advice given in the prose at the end of the book. It always reminds me to love rocks, soil, butterflies, wasps, trees and dandelions. It sings that the Earth is alive and we are just small parts of it that have lost our way.
