The most cherished film by Charlie Chaplin (Modern Times) is also his ultimate Little Tramp chronicle. The writer-director-star achieved new levels of grace, in both physical comedy and dramatic poignancy, with this silent tale of a lovable vagrant falling for a young blind woman who sells flowers on the street (a magical Virginia Cherrill) and mistakes him for a millionaire. Though this Depression-era smash was made after the advent of sound, Chaplin remained steadfast in his love for the expressive beauty of the pre-talkie form. The result was the epitome of his art and the crowning achievement of silent comedy. Chaplin's Masterpiece
The Little Tramp meets and falls in love with a blind woman who sells flowers but she thinks that he's a millionaire. Despite talkies being common in 1931 when this was made, Charlie Chaplin was determined to carry on with silent films and it pays off with perhaps his best film. A simplistic but sweet, moving and hilarious film with Charlie Chaplin excellent in one of his best and final performances of The Little Tramp. A silent comedy masterpiece.

Not for me.
This is one of those films that people love.Personally I don't like it.I find it hard to define why, I just don't get much enjoyment from it.I am working my way through an Imdb watchlist and some of the films are excellent and some are indifferent and some are just OK.But, I still find sticking to the list interesting and this film fits that bill.An awful lot of people love it and as such I wanted to watch it, I'd not seen it before. It just isn't for me, it's only my personal opinion, but it is how I feel about it.

Fresh as a daisy
A breathtaking comic genius. "City Lights", written and produced and directed by Charles Chaplin is as fresh and funny and deeply touching now as it was when it first appeared in1930. Rightfully considered Chaplin's masterpiece (it was his own favourite of his films) AND one of the best films ever made.

Few films can surpass this for the gamut of emotions from laughter, despair, pathos and tears
Probably the greatest of the Chaplin films. James Agee once said that the ending was the finest acting committed to celluloid. It certainly produced a torrent of emotions in my family. Pure genius

A fantastic silent film
Not only is it really funny, but it also has a lot of heart to it! In my opinion, this is the greatest rom com ever made and the only one that deserves to be called the best! After watching it a 2nd time, it's now in my top 20 favourite films. I love it!

I think this is the best Chaplin film of all
I think this is the best Chaplin film of all. The final sequence in which the flower girl who can now see meets Chaplin is momentous - bring a handkerchief!
