Silva Ranger Compass

As a scout leader, I like silva compass’s, they are good quality and reliable

Works well, points to north! Clear visuals, not a bad price.

This compass performs its primary purpose, the needle points to magnetic north. I have confirmed this by comparing to other digital and magnetic compasses.The base plate of this compass is simple, flat, clear plastic. Each edge has a clearly marked ruled scale along it. Additionally, there is a magnifying lens which is a bit crude but does the job if needed.The bezel rotates with just the right reassuring resistance so it is easy to set when required, but doesn’t cause concern that it will unintentionally move.The degree markings on the dial are clear, as is the declination scale and orienting lines.The lanyard has both 1:25k and 1:50k scales on it, however it feels a little flimsy. I think I might replace it with something a little more robust.As it is made of acrylic there are some concerns regarding long term durability, however, so far it is working well. That is the compromise for buying a cheaper product.

I always keep try and keep it simple and it works?This compass has all you need for your adventures. With both 1:50 and 1:25k for your different map scale readings which is standard use. . However, this is all what you need for orienteering. it has both scales you can use and the magnifier.Both My son and I use these compasses. My son currently use this compass in his training for 10 Tors and Duke of Edinburgh. Fully recommend

What a great deal!! The finest quality materials. I bought this for a friend as has now become my mountaineering buddy. Over the years I have tried several compasses but this one is the most durable and accurate. Sylva got this spot on and understand equipment quality saves lives. Brilliant just brilliant. Having tested it for several months my buddy could not praise it enough. Big thumbs up 👍

I've not used the compass yet but as a long time fan of Silva I have no doubts it will perform exactly as it should

I bought this as an upgrade to a cheap compass I’d been using. It’s definitely an improvement, the bezel has a firm, smooth motion and stays in place once set. Markings are clear and it has all the stuff you need for navigating with a map. As soon as I opened it though I noticed the strap was far too small to be of use hanging round my neck, so I swapped it for the one on my old compass. I’m glad I did, as with barely any force at all the safety clasp holding the strap together disintegrated, which would have made it even more useless on a hike. Overall good compass but you will need a separate strap if you want to wear it while hiking.
