Awesome game that stays intresting through out the game. Bash the zombies or avoid them your choice.
I thought that this game was fantastic. I was a little on the fence as to weather to give this a 4 or a 5 but, since there isn't a 4.5 option I went with a 5. So for all intents consider this review a 4.5. Early on in the game there is a steep learning curve for the parkour but, once you learn the system and put some skill points into the agility tree it becomes second nature. There even is a skill for using a zombie as a jumping platform. So cool. Also early in the game the melee combat (power tree) is a bit cumbersome. Again though once you bash enough zombie skulls and level up your power and survival skills you will become a zombie bashing machine. At higher levels the weapons become so much better. The weapon system lets you repair them just a few times early on with low level weapons. Later on at higher levels you can repair them more times and can also craft upgrades to them for further zombie bashing efficiency. The game uses the now seemingly standard color system for identifying weapon strength. You are rewarded for exploration and collecting stuff for crafting. The containers are mostly random with what they contain for the most part. And you can expect better leveled items the harder the lock is. Lock picking is pretty much borrowed from the fallout series. The loot system also uses the color system identifying the better crafting materials. As the games name suggests the stakes are much higher as night falls upon you. Points are doubled for power and agility. And the zombies are much more aggressive. Also a new much tougher and faster zombie is introduced known as Volatiles. These bad guys are vulnerable to UV light but not much else and are better avoided, as you can get quickly overwhelmed even at higher levels. Surviving the night awards players with a lot of survival points so it's definitely worth the risk. Dying in this game really sucks taking away many of your hard earned survival points. The storyline is engaging and never gets boring. There are plenty of side quests to complete and random survivors to help out along with plenty of the main antagonists minions to be dealt with. All these provide the player with survival points. All in all this is a quality game that won't get boring and is well worth the price tag what ever it may be. Even new.

Do you like killing zombies and watching them bleed? If so, get this game!!
I finished Far Cry 4, and needed another FPS to feed my habit. I'd been wanting to play a zombie game, and this one fit the bill perfectly. To be honest, this isn't exactly a first person shooter. True, it's got first-person perspective, and there are some guns, but melee weapons are where it's at. There is nothing more satisfying that beheading a zombie as you run past, or slicing through a zombie's torso cutting them in half. I also love stumbling across a large area packed with zombies and slaughtering them all. Here are a few pros & cons: PROS: -Lots of gory detail, spurting blood, severed heads, bodies cut in half (both vertically and horizontally) -Good weapons system, starting with meager bludgeoning weapons and working up to edged weapons. Multiple means of upgrading the weapons, too. -Good suspenseful soundtrack music, particularly on the main missions. -Great "distractor" missions- the impromptu ones that show up while you're on your way for another quest -You can skip the cutscenes (which are WAY too long) -Great melee combat system, feels very natural. I would love to see a Viking/ Medeival game with similar combat mechanics. I DO wish you could choose what type of stroke your character was going to take (vertical strike, right-left strike, backhand strike). -The gore. I really can't emphasize how great the zombie gore is. CONS: -AT FIRST there seem to only be about a ten zombie types, and its not uncommon to be attacked by zombies that look like they could be twins. By the end of the game, you're fighting a massive variety of zombie characters. -"Volatiles" look more like aliens, with predator jaws and a chest that opens up. Kinda a departure from the zombie theme. -No control over what melee attack you use, although your character usually strikes right-to-left, then left-to-right. This can be annoying when a certain strike would clearly be better to take down your opponent -MANY times, I've timed and aimed a strike perfectly, yet my weapon seems to pass through the zombie without hitting them, and they try to take a bite out of me. -The "help a survivor" opportunities that pop up can be hard to locate sometimes. You'll hear someone screaming, you'll run to where they're supposed to be, but they're actually on the roof or behind a door that won't open/ can't pick -I wish there was a way to upgrade your lockpicking skills so that you didn't have to spend so much time on tough locks -Days can be very short sometimes, and I don't know why. I can think of a handful of times where I set out first thing in the morning and it's nighttime before I really do anything. Overall, this is a great game, just as fun as Far Cry 4 was. In some ways its better because I'm killing ZOMBIES.

Didn't like Dead Island at all. This changed my mind.
I was on the fence on buying this game. Before it released, although I was interested in the storyline, the fact that the developers of Dead Island made this (Techland) made me skeptical about the game, since I didn't really like the Dead Island games at all. After some consideration and asking others about the game, I decided to go in blind and buy the game at it's current price, not knowing if I would like it or not. I have to say, it is one of the most graphically amazing looking games I have ever played on the Xbox One so far. After playing this game for a good 10-15 hours already, I find this game to be a lot of fun. I've played many hours of the story mode so far and still have many hours to go, and so far it's good. The big world that you can explore, to find weapons and materials to craft useful tools and other weapons, and the realism of a zombie apocalypse is what makes this game probably one of the most realistic zombie survival games I've ever played, with the parkour aspect adding in some fun to the element of survival along with the side quests and future dlc to keep you playing for hours. In fact, I'm considering getting the season pass for this game because of the content that you'll get access too. Even playing co-op with up to 4 friends makes the game better. Be the zombie mode: This is my opinion on the game mode, it's free to download for everyone now. This game mode personally is better played with friends. When it comes to playing with other random people, it's not as fun as playing with your friends, seeing them freak out as you attack them as a zombie from above, another element to the co-op experience. Overall, this game definitely blows Dead Island away. I don't see why critics give this a 6-7/10. I give this game a 9/10 because of everything I've experienced so far and because it's one of the best zombie survival games you are going to be offered at the moment compared to other games that are out right now. I think it's a good game to pass the time before other games release later on. If you are unsure, you might as well rent it or try it at a friends house if you're curious, as everyone's opinion is going to different from mine. However, I made a good decision getting this game, and regardless of what system you get this game on, you are going to have the same, fun experience.

Dying Light: Enhanced Edition is Necessary for Zombie Enthusiasts
Dying Light is a game that grows on you and gets better as it goes but why does a game like that deserve four stars? The reason why is that it has received countless updates and with this edition of the game, you get so much more than the original. The Following DLC adds to the map and story missions to the game itself. Overall, Dying Light: Enhanced Edition is a great buy for the price. What has stood out most to me in this game in the feeling of dread at night time. Not often do we get an open-world zombie game set in first person but it keeps you alert. Especially playing with headphones on, I find myself constantly turning around to see if there is actually something behind me. Another great part is that the world is more diverse thanks to the Following add on and that helps prolong the game. Though the story can get a little predictable at times, I would argue that you are playing this game to traverse the environment and fight zombies instead of getting an oscar-worthy script. Speaking of the movement system, though it make running around the map fun, it can be tedious at times and can leave you getting caught by a fast moving zombie is the button doesn't work properly. ****I like to recommend games in my reviews and if you like the movement system in this game, you should try the latest Mirror's Edge Catalyst - Xbox One . Opening up the world from the first game, EA brings us back to the futuristic, par core gameplay while also giving Faith a little more story. I realize the story is a polar opposite, but the gameplay would be familiar after playing Dying Light. Overall, if you need a zombie game and Dead Rising is a little too cheesy for you, grab Dying Light. There is more horror here than one might think and I didn't even get to the part where you can play this online with friends. There is a lot here to keep you playing for the price and if anyone has told you otherwise, ask how long it's been since they have played it because there has been a lot of new parts added. I hope you give it a try! Let me know what you think!

Great game
Fun game. Mixes fleeing zombies and fighting them very well. There are things in the environment you can use to kill them, and there is loot everywhere so crafting is used a lot and you dont have to be super conservative with what you make. The survivor sense is incredibly handy for finding loot, and the game makes it tense as lockpicking and some things like that dont pause the game, sometimes you have to be quick. The grapple hook is beast, and I have an uber powerful sword, A SWORD! It electrocutes and lops heads off like a boss. Talk about fun. Have done a ton of side quests, I have to say there is a lot of variation in them they are more than just go here get this and bring back. they have a purpose, whether its someone wanting to upgrade uv lights, to making prototype bombs, to awesome blueprints, you will want to complete the side quests. As night falls i really feel the urgency to get the heck off the street and somewhere safe. The entire game dynamic changes to something much more hostile. Would have liked the volitiles to become more challenging to avoid, but every so often they will surprise you. How anyone can say these graphics are anything but amazing is beyond me... I've only ran into a few minor glitches. Climbing down ladders has been risky for me... if I'm not at a perfect angle it will say hold x to grab, but i fall before actually grabbing the ladder. Also i found a room with a locked door with loot inside. Couldn't get in, but I was able to select a cabinet to search from a window. When i hit x it pulled me into the room in front of the cabinet, where I was locked in and had to quit and restart -EDIT- turns out you could get into this room from the roof. Most satisfying moment so far was luring a horde of zombies toward a burning car, kicking one of them into it and igniting it, then watching the other zombies trip over the burning corpse and burn themselves. -EDIT- Ok so there are waaaaay more epic moments than that i have found now that I am 50 hours into the game! Also if you have an Android or IOS device you can download a companion app where you send scouts out to do missions and earn rewards that you can transfer to the quartermaster in game. App works well for me and is fun to use at work or other downtime.

Too Much of Been There, Done That
While obviously trying to be so many games wrapped up in one, Dying Light fails to capture this gamer's interest by being incredibly inaccessible with a complicated mix of previous games. It truly sputters any spark of immediate feel-good action or originality. What do I mean? Let's take a simple idea about going from point A to point B, kind of like Grand Theft Auto where you have to traverse halfway around the map and back just to accomplish nothing important. And while you're going from point A to B, you also need to go to point C, D and E because there are side missions that are somehow important too. Now let's add parkour, cause hey, it's cool and hip. Mirror's Edge it is. But it's not a simple button press to accomplish this parkour. You must be specifically looking at what you need to jump to in order to actually make any successful jump. Now we need bad guys in the story cause if everyone was good, the game would REALLY suck. Far Cry it is, because it resembles an open world while actually being very linear. Ok. But we need a hook. Something to make it seem not so copycatish to all the other games. I got it! ZOMBIES! Dead Island it is! Because hitting zombies over the head with a super-duper modulated rusty pipe is much more enjoyable than laying waste to hundreds of them with a full-auto 50 cal. or BFG. So we have a Dead Island, Mirror's Edge, Far Cry, GTA remix. Great, right?? Not if you played those games before. Mixing it all together turns it into a much too complex layering of things to do and stuff to manage while simply going from point A to point B becomes a migraine within a headache within a hemorrhoid ready to burst. If you don't feel frustrated playing this game, you are special. And by being special, you will always get to ride on the short bus--from point A to point B, to C, D and F.

Great Game
This is a great open world game. I haven't played an open world game like this since Fall Out New Vegas. It has a great main story with lots of twists and turns that are unexpected. The Side Quests are short, fun and an easy way earn experience points. There is a vast range of weapons - one handed and two handed. You can mod them and upgrade them. Most of the weapons are melee. They also have a few guns but anybody who knows Zombies knows that guns aren't good. Personally my favorite weapon is the sickle. The game cycles day and night. During the day the Zombies are pretty easy to avoid, but don't get me wrong, large groups of Zombies can be deadly. At night all Zombies are very alert and fast. If the volatiles get ahold of you, you're almost destined to die because the regular Zombies swarm you. ********SPOILERS********* Through out the game there are air drops of survival supplies that if you collect them you can earn experience points by delivering them to the Quarter Master. Unfortunately I did not know that after beating the mission called The Pit the air drops stopped. If you would like to continue earning experience points (3500) then I suggest that you continue doing Side Quests, collecting air drops and killing Zombies to level up. PROS: Open World Large selection of weapons Lots of fun side quests Fun main story A large variety of Zombies CONS: Some glitches ie collecting lavender and having them disappear from my inventory Needs better directions on how to craft and upgrade weapons Needs directions on more of the side quests Overall this is a great game. I think it's worth 5 stars but I'm biased towards this game because I am a Zombie fan and an Open World game fan. The game is really good and I hope this review is helpful. My mom gets mad if I play the game and she's not there to watch me play!!!!

Probably One of The Best Zombie Games in Years
I am surprised at how polished and fun this game is. Surprised because some of the same people have developed games such as Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide. They're a pretty good developer from Poland. While those games were fun with zombies and gore, they were very buggy and had a lot if gameplay imbalances. This game is not a sequel but more like a better younger brother of Deae Island games. The game is excellent not only because of better graphics but because of the very fun and bug free gameplay. I almost haven't seen a single glitch or a bug from 30 or so hours of playing. Killing zombies is very fun and satisfying. There are various ways to kill them creatively that helps the player level up more rapidly or gives some other minor rewards. The acrobatics and parkour aspect , while kind of unbelievable, is very fun. It feels better than Mirror's Edge because it is easier to do various tricks. There are still challenges like enemies in the way it falling when you jump without paying attention. The developers managed to create a very deceptively challenging combat too. The zombies seem slow and harmless individually but when you get surrounded by them everything changes into a hectic survival combat based on quick responses and resource management. Your weapon can suddenly break, you may run out of medkits, and you might suddenly face runner zombies that occasionally appear. Finally, you can craft a variety of very fun weapons. It is fun not only because of the weapon use on its own but also because there is an incentive to loot all sorts of boxes, containers, pick locks, and search the dead bodies. That and you will want to find nicer base weapons as well. The only imperfection in this game is very cheesy and often dumb dialogue when you speak to NPCs or hear your protagonist speak. It's all very cartoony as far as voice acting. It can be irritating.
