I’M TOTALLY IN LOVE!!!
I have TONS of music books that I’ve gotten over the years and I’ve opened them and I’ll practice a few exercises and then get frustrated because I just couldn’t connect with them. This book, however, I can’t put it down literally. This book is EVERYTHING that I’ve been wanting to learn but just never knew where to look and to have the mp3’s to hear as well is a bonus. All the chords, slides etc. that I wanted to learn and how they flow with each other is all in this book! Definitely worth the money!!!! ❤️

Intro 4 Wypipo
Good, relevant information, but decidedly white. Listen to some Prince, Bobby Womack, Ray Parker, Paul Jackson Jr., Soulquarians; start washing your meat and cook with seasoning. Then you might have the sauce...

Inspiring book for every guitarist!
Why is this a great book? It is because no matter whether you are self-taught or have great insight into music theory and can sight read with ease, this book will work for you. The book offers tablature, standard music, charts, number systems - something for everyone! A big plus are the free downloadable mp3 file for audio examples and tracts to play along with. This book is worth twice the price easily and I'm excited about learning new thing again. It inspires me to practice and to buy more books from this publisher.

I wish all guitar books taught this well
This is the single best written guitar book I have ever used. It's fun, incredibly useful, and honestly kind of addictive. If you are on the fence about buying this book, I recommend working through the first couple exercises shown in the preview. I think you will find that you are hooked, and I can promise you that it stays that good and accessible even as the examples get more challenging. One amazing thing about this book is that it just breaks things down and presents them… perfectly? It's like the authors understand exactly how people actually learn. Each chapter is structured as a series of cumulative examples which prepare you to play a longer selection at the end. The examples are short (roughly 1-4 bars), just a little harder than what you can easily play, and absolutely delightful once you've got them down. Because they're so accessible, you always want to keep working. You never feel bogged down or lost. You just always have something really cool in front of you that you can make progress on.Another amazing thing about this book is that the examples build your intuitions about the neo-soul style, and why it works. A lot of books about other styles don't even attempt this, or else do it very poorly. (It's hard to blame all the guitar students who see theory as a straightjacket--- a lot of books present it that way!) But this book breaks everything apart so that you really get to "experience" the difference pieces of the neo-soul sound. So for example, you'll have an example where you play through some spicy changes. Then you'll get another example which extends those changes with some hammer-ons and slides and whatnot. Then you'll get another example which adds in some pentatonic melodic material between the chords. Then you'll do all of that with a different set of changes. As a result, you end up with neo-soul really in your bones and not just in your noggin--- though the book does have enough explicit discussion of theory to satisfy this reviewer, who is a bit of a theory nerd.Other comments: probably not for "Wonderwall"-level beginners but probably accessible to "Blackbird"-level beginners, and definitely accessible to anyone with even a little experience in jazz. The book has tab, comes with audio, and partial video, but it would benefit from notated fingerings.

A great book to add to your knowledge of other playing styles!
I have always loved the sounds and harmonies that neosoul guitar players have been able to play. And I have always wanted to learn, but have never taken the time too, until I found this book. The book caught my attention because Mark Lettieri is featured in it, and a couple of his pieces are in it also. So, I decided to purchase this book with some Christmas money that was given to me. I am so glad I did. This book is amazing, and even though I have just started it, I feel like I can get into the groove and have some fun playing harmonies and chords that I haven't before. This is not a book that I would recommend to a beginner, but an intermediate level guitarist would do fine.

So thats how to get that sound!!!!!!!
I had heard that guitar sound and didn't quite know how to explain it to other guitar players but I knew I really liked it and wanted to learn how to sound like that. Not sure if it was in a email or just trolling on line but I came across this book and it's just what the doctor ordered. Video and audio with tabs. I listened to all the examples and noted the ones I liked the best and I'm working on them first which will take some time there's 70 of them and a ton more when I'm done with the 70. I wish there would have been tabs for video "Fours"

Some great licks, poor transcriptions
Some nice licks in this book for getting the Neo Soul ball rolling. That said, the rhythm is really challenging to read in this book because whoever wrote the rhythms does not understand the basic transcription concept of showing where the beat lands by using ties properly. It is frustrating to go through example after example only to find that you have to wrestle with the poorly-written rhythm. I gave up after a while due to the constant fight, and I am an advanced player and sight reader. It's really pretty amateurish to publish this kind of material.

Eye-opening!!
Coming from a beginner jazz background, I am blown away by the simplicity of neo-soul guitar. The writers did an awesome job of slowly introducing simple chord voicings, then adding great licks to go alongside. The sample audio is also great to help understand the nuances of the written music. Great package for serious learners!

Excellent book, but some mistakes in notation
One of the most pedagogical and musical guitar instruction books I've ever seen.It starts from the musical concepts and harmony and the technical exercises that will help you get them under your finger, and progresses to playing some excellent neo-soul tunes. One negative point is that he notation of the book is often wrong and doesn't match the audio or video - sometimes it's different chords, sometimes the fingering is wrong, sometimes it's the rhythm. However it is easy to correct by listening to the provided sound samples and watching the videos, therefore I haven't taken a star off for it.

Not a bad way to get into Rnb guitar
I have been searching the Internet for a while on how to play Rnb guitar effectively. This book from the very first page sets you on the right path. You will instantly be learning how to make your playing sound more fun and soulful.I also like the fact that you can download the backing tracks and the audio exercise laid out in the book for free. This will help you make sure you're playing the examples correctly.I'm really hoping that this book will develop my playing for the good!

Great Introduction to the Style
Just bought Neo Soul guitar. I had been intrigued by the style for a while and have found a gateway into playing it through this book. The initial licks lead you into playing a full piece in the 1st and following chapters and the sound of the style can be produced straight away. I'm looking forward to continuing to discover this style & listen to the artists of Neo Soul as I progress.A worthwhile purchase.

Brilliant book
This book is fantastic! Still only working through the first main piece of music (Penguin Suit) but loving how each study is broken down and explained in bite size pieces with small goals to achieve. There’s the constant sense of achievement and the backing tracks/videos to accompany the book are brilliant

Great for practical application of techniques
This is a great book that gives clear examples of techniques with exercises and audio to accompany it. These exercises are then applied in songs/pieces for you to learn with backing tracks. Drum loops are provided for better practise experiences, and the website also offers a variety of videos related to the pieces for visual aid. I’ve only just started this book, but I’ve had a good read through it. Another highlight is the gear section which will help with ‘getting the tone’. Good work chaps, already got the funk and circle of fifths on the way!
