Lowrance HDS-5 Gen2 Lake Insight Transducer

I don't know why it took me so long to buy this unit. It works well and simple to use and I highly recommend the HDS-5 Gen 2 to all those who are hesitating. Go for it, you won't regret it.

I bought this for using as a Depth finder and GPS, not so much on the Fishfinder functions. I have had the unit for a few weeks. The GPS is extremely accurate and the Depth finder has kept me out of the shallows. It has a lot of features that I am sure I have not even begun to use. I was happy with the ease of install and directions. The only thing that this unit needs is a photocell to automatically dim the screen at night and brighten during the day. I manually turned the screen display down to the lowest setting the prior night, and the next day it was so dim, I could not see the screen to increase the brightness. This is my first fishfinder, gps I have owned, so I might not know all the features yet, but so far I am pretty happy with the unit.I bring HDS-5 in every night, so hopefully it will last. It has 2 easy disconnect plugs in the back and of course the side mount screws holding the unit down. The screen seems delicate and I does take some work to clean any smudges off. I always use the plastic cover, but I do sometimes wonder how durable the screen is. The unit is mounted on a center console with a bimini top and windshield. I am in Florida and use this in saltwater, so I will update if I have any problems

I had this HDS unit for 2.5 years (just outside the Lowrance replacement warranty) and it started acting up- GPS cutting out, screen flickering, SD card maps not reading, etc. I lived with it for another few months and it just up and died. I thought I bought a well-supported product - I was WRONG! Customer service rep [David] wouldn't even let me talk to his manager [Crystal] saying they never, EVER go beyond their policy of basically "you're screwed". They won't fix it, and the "5-year" warranty is simply 5% off MSRP of a new unit- heck, you can get them cheaper online. I opened up the unit to find the problem - water had been leaking in! Unit was never submerged, in the rain several times but that should be acceptable(?). Just wish someone had told me of this before I bought a very expensive unit. FYI- if your unit starts acting funny- SAVE your tracks and waypoints ASAP! I just lost 3 years of fishing spots and hazards.

Just broked already and hardly use it .They discontinued this product and no warranty after 6 month.

Put this on the boat, took it out for it's first trip. It worked great for about 3 hours. We turned off the boat - several times - no problem. Then we turned off the boat and the unit wouldn't turn on anymore. The back of the unit was HOT. Needless to say we were very frustrated. I called Lowrance, they had me ship the unit back, and they sent me a brand new replacement. The customer service person at Lowrance was very nice. I just got the replacement today, so hopefully everything will be good from now on.

This unit was easy to install and the directions fairly easy to read and follow. I have had the unit out for a couple of fishing outings and I like what I see. The real test will be in how long the unit lasts. My last Lowrance fish finder and GPS lasted over 15 years.

Work's great with the point one antenna off road!

This product is great for fishermen of any style. The display is easy to read. The menu is easy to navigate through.
