MOES 50A Dual Power Controller, Automatic Transfer Switch ATS

If you want to build your own solar powered project with battery backup, then this is an essential piece of kit. It's even a vital bit of kit, because it does it's job based on a simple principle of storage battery voltage sensing. My small project has 620w of solar panels, a 300Ahr LFP battery, and a 2kw pure sine wave inverter. This powers two deep freezers which use (when both are on) no more than 240w, barely 10% of the inverter capacity. The switch limits on this kit can be customised, and I have set mine to switch back to grid when my battery reduces to 12.5v, and revert to the inverter once the battery voltage increases past 13.1v. The switch between the two power sources is so seamless and quick that my freezers don't stop running if it happens while they're running. So far I've proved to myself that a fully charged battery can easily run my freezers, now it's a question of keeping the battery charged well enough. Ok with the UK weather I might need more panels, but here's the thing;- with this device you don't have to worry about your battery running low because you have the peace of mind knowing that if it does then you have the grid as backup. This is my second device, when my previous item went faulty after over two years. I have to hand it to the seller here (MOES) who gave me a good discount on my replacement.

Works well

My setup: 12 Volt 315AH battery bank, Mains grid & Inverter (3KW) as the input to the MOES. I found the instructions a bit confusing initially but once I got my head around it I tested and installed, it now does what I expect it to do. As other reviewers have mentioned this device switches purely on the 12V supply which is adjustable for cut off and cut in voltage (in my setup 12.5V cut off & 13.5V cut in but will also work with 24 or 48V), it does not take into account weather the inverter is on or off, this means the inverter needs to be on all the time which of course will drain the batteries even though it is not being used (night time). To overcome this I bypassed the Inverter on-off switch with a CN101A timer and set the on time to 08:00 and the off time to 21:00 (June in Dublin). I could of course just left the Inverter on all the time but as there is not much need for it at night decided on the timer to switch the Inverter on & off to protect the batteries which are the most expensive part of my setup.

Really happy with this . Our previous inverter was damaged by an electrical storm. We have a battery system for back up when the power goes off which happens quite often in Ghana. We were using one which didn't have a mains power facility. Adding this one has meant we now use solar power to charge the batteries but utilise the mains power at night or for heavy duty items like our pump. The settings took time to work out ie the high and low power to work efficiently and ensure the batteries still have enough power if there is a blackout but we got the balance right and now we are making good use of solar power for the first time.

I run my computer equipment via an Inverter run from Solar/Battery and bought this to automatically switch to mains power when my Battery runs low. It has been flawless. I never notice when it switches to/from the Inverter. The only extra that I would like is remote access to see the state. Not a biggie as the rest of my kit is Victron and so I can see the Battery and Inverter status via the Victron Connect app/VRM.

Very well made and intuitive in use. Enables maximum use of solar power without having to check levels and switch over manually. Also protects batteries from over discharge.

This item dead on first run With the LV switch set to 12.3v and the HV switch set to 14v the unit is switched to inverter with a battery voltage at 12v and will not switch to grid no matter what you do with the cut out and cut in settings. It was lucky I noticed this as it would have wrecked my £1000 battery bank by running it completely flat. Also it is not very smart as you can set it up to work but if you forget to switch your inverter on it will still switch to the inverter input even though the inverter is off thus leaving whatever appliances you need to run with no power. This is not a Smart device it is nothing more than a simple voltage controlled switch that will not check if there is voltage at the inputs. Now it has let me down I will not be replacing it, it will be returned for a refund and I will be building my own with all the safety interlocks in place. In my opinion this is a good idea that has not been very well thought through and is left open to far to many errors on the part of the unit itself and the operator. (Over Priced For What it Does)

Item is a must for solar installations works a treat. Easy to configure, I don't need to worry about my storage battery going flat. Auto switch over mains.

When your solar battery bank gets to a voltage that you select , it will keep your batteries from being over drained and go to the public electric grid automatically from your fuse box and your appliances will keep running on that instead of draining your batteries . Install a outlet near it , then use the plug end of an extension cord and the other end strip the wires and they go to the moes as public power going in to moes then cut another section of extension cord it goes from moes and into the the inverter , then use the other end of the extension cord wire it into moes and what ever you plug into that will run with Moes and the inverter will show you how many watts the appliance you plugged in is using . I used a three way end so I can plug in three appliances . Then you take the green wires and twist them together with a wire nut . The ground will go off the inverter into your ground . I used a long copper spike and have all my grounds going into that from a bus bar . When your batteries charge up to the voltage you choose then it automatically goes to battery power .

I got this to allo me to allow devices to work all the time on my small 100W solar panel. It automatically switches the 110V power between the converter and the grid based on the power available in the battery. Works great!

Packaging is good, when I unbox everything, it's fine, when I open the module, the relay is 12 volt DC 60 ampere, the specification is 50A load, in my opinion, the capacity of the relay can handle safely at 50 ampere, the jumper wire it looks high capacity conductor, at this moment, not yet testing for a real load.
