Excellent product
I got most of my coco coir locally this year, but toward the end of the growing season availability is limited. A lot of the retailers online sell coco coir for three to four times the amount that I pay at local stores, and that includes retailers on Amazon. This particular product is one of the more affordable and I am happy with the way it performed. I now amend the soil in all of my growing areas with coco coir and highly recommend it for any type of climate. It really helps hold moisture in the soil in dry climates, and it has a tendency to spread the moisture evenly so you don't end up with areas that are really wet. I use it for starting plants, in container gardening, in my flower gardens, and in all my raised beds. I usually mix it 50-50 with soil because the coco coir has zero nutrients in it, but it's great for starting plants because it makes them easy to transplant and prevents soil compaction. It also makes weeding MUCH easier!

Perfect for my seedlings
I've been starting my seedlings indoors with pri mox (interchange the vowels) for years. Zero success with jyffi peat pellets. This stretches my pri mox. Pri mox tends to develop mushrooms and has a bad smell. The coco coir has a nice fresh smell to it. Wear a mask to handle. It can be dusty if you are using part. I've tried various methods to split the brick. A hammer and chisel from the side works best. Easy no effort. The brick appears to be layered that way, so it splits really well. A little goes a long way. It soaks a remarkable amount of water and bloats perfectly into a moist, airy texture. My seedlings have never been better. This is inert. Some talk about perlite. If you are going bio... perlite is not the best. I add some swaboost seaweed liquid fertiliser. It's like dynamite. I also use their seameal in the garden. My tomato plants grow to the top of my 8' ladders and all the way back down here in Canada and produce a lot. I am very pleased with the coco coir and this will be my go to in the future. I have not noticed that it shrunk or compressed. Maybe long term for house plants. I'm using it for seedlings and it's just awesome An improvement on other substrate I have used in the past. Peat is harvested destroys wetlands (but local). Coco coir is waste that becomes a value added product. Added review may 2021: my seedlings were perfect this year. Next year, abandoning Pri Mox and going to coir only (if available). Of course I will need to add nutriments (I use liquid algae from Nova Scotia. It's like liquid dynamite. Little to no smell) . Hoping they will restock this fall / winter!

Would recommend to ALL gardeners! Life changing!
I was told about this by a farmer in Africa, that had gone down to help with the current crop situation that they’re having. Great stuff! I absolutely love this! Like the title says, I would honestly recommend this to all levels of gardeners! It works AMAZING when you mix it in some soil for better drainage. I’m currently using it as an indoor growing medium, but I’m very excited to try this in my outdoor garden this summer! It’s worth every penny! I will definitely recommend this to all my friends & family that garden!

Great quality coir fiber provides great results with consistent quality.
I’ve purchased 16 Mother Earth Coco Bales in 4 separate orders and my experience has been positive and consistent throughout. Having read the reviews, I was careful to check for any debris, bad smells, failure to expand, etc. I can report there were no bad smells, and there were only a few random tiny rocks and a string of plastic in total. This product should be expanded in a large container. I filled my wheelbarrow with water for each brick. After an hour, most of the coco had expanded (see attached image), and I was able to get the entire batch expanded after a little crumbling by hand. I then dried the expanded coir to get a large amount of fluffy, absorbent material which I’ve used for both potted plants and garden soil amendment. I have several large areas with extremely poor, rocky soil and this summer have amended the areas by removing most rocks and added 1/5 ratio coco coir. Since the coir is fairly neutral, and compost bags are heavy to lug around, I took a shortcut and added some Herd of Worms worm tea fertilizer (https://www.amazon.com/Worm-Tea-Fertilizer-Liquid-Concentrate/dp/B0BZDNCGGZ) with great success. Later I’ll be able to add compost and earthworms, but the amended soil is absorbent and I am very pleased with the results.
