A well made and attractive motion sensor for outdoor monitoring.
I use these to monitor the outdoor perimeter of my home and yard and they work perfectly. I had an alarm company install an outsice alarm control unit that matches the interior alarm and there have been no false alarms. Whenever these sensors have triggered an alarm, we have found unwanted visitors. Great peace of mind with these motion sensors.

Work well and are durable
I had 4 of these installed when my house was built over 20 years ago, I'm adding another to the back of the garage to trigger lights for a new path. They work well and seem durable. Note that they are not mains rated but work in with a 12v control system.

These are excellent PIRs. I added them to my Hikvision cameras ...
These are excellent PIRs. I added them to my Hikvision cameras and they really brought the system together. The range on these is at least as good as the spec. They will easily pick up a neighbor walking down the sidewalk 50 feet away and I don't even have the sensitivity all the way up. The only reason I'm not giving these the fifth star is because I think they should come with a mounting bracket of any kind. I didn't realize that when I bought these.

No false alarms
Works great. Duel detection, no false alarms. Plus after years in the sun the cover/lens can be replaced.

The OPTEX LX-402 is not the best choice for your outdoor network security camera.
There are instances when an external PIR motion detector connected to your outdoor network security camera will cut down drastically on the number of false alarms normally generated by the camera's built in motion detector. By false alarms I mean flying creatures (birds and insects), large four-legged animals, foliage on tree branches and bushes moving in the wind, sunlight sporadically peeking through that foliage, rain, snow, shadows, the list goes on.I chose the OPTEX LX-402 outdoor Passive Infrared Motion Detector to use in conjunction with one of my Phylink PLC-133SPW Outdoor Pro network security cameras to reduce false alarms and focus on two-legged animals. The detectors literature brochure states 'Activation of CCD camera, light, siren and/or other devices'.Previous to connecting the OPTEX motion detector I tested the camera's ability to trigger recording at its Digital Input and Common terminals by using a bare ended 3-inch piece of 24 Gauge solid copper wire to mimic the Normally Open or Normally Closed conditions of the LX-402s output relay (the Phylink can be set for either conditions to trigger). Externally triggered recording using the wire jumper at the camera's DI and Common terminals worked flawlessly. Using the OPTEX LX-402, it fails to trigger or continuously triggers recording when connected to the Phylink's DI and Common terminals.I decided to investigate the issue using an ohm meter and probing the N/O, N/C and Common terminals of the LX-402 during motion detect operation. When the LX-402's relay contacts close there are 3 ohms of measured resistance. Resistance across closed relay contacts is deviant from the norm. Depending on the camera's DI setting the camera circuit wants to see no resistance between DI and Common when the detectors relay closes from the normally open state in order to trigger recording (DI active state is grounded). It also wants to see no resistance between its terminals when the detector's relay is closed (normally closed) and opens during motion detection in order to trigger recording (DI active state is open) otherwise it will continuously record.I had purchased two of the OPTEX LX-402 PIR Motion Detectors blindly and both have 3 Ohms of resistance across closed relay contacts. This is not a 'One-off' issue. I emailed the OTPEX California office in April describing my findings hoping they would shed some light on the resistance issue. It is now July (three months later) and no response. I see nothing mentioned in the LX-402s literature or manual as to why it was designed this way.So, before you decide to purchase an external PIR motion detector for your outdoor security camera, do some reasearch into compatibility. Call or email the manufacturer. Who knows, you may be lucky and get a response.

Works but was expecting more
Cons:-At first, i could not power with POE router with spliter at camera towards PIR. I had to run a separate 12 V DC wire and another for alarm data.-Adjustment settings seems to be a hit or miss (it's everything or nothing). If I have at low sensitivity it gets nothing and at medium, it shoots too far (catches across the street). I have bracket with tilt and swivel adjustment, so even with that I can't seem to get to the sweet spot.-The lens cover is not smooth shaped. It is bumped like it either got overheated or it is just bad quality manufacturing.-The price is too steep. I could have got a similar device in features for half the price (which I will do for my backyard camera).Pros:-it works...

Optex has a good name in PIR
Have used this as a discrete trigger for my IP camera. Optex has a good name in PIR, and I have not been disappointed. It significantly reduced the false positives on recording motion in the back yard. I had to prune some foliage about five feet away from the sensor, but after that, I hardly have any false positive recordings. Doing a walk test on medium sensitivity, it triggers at 30 feet out to the sides and at least 35 feet away in front, day and night. It has been running for several months with no issues. Will update if that changes.

Works great.
Great PIR sensor for outdoor applications. I used it to replace a cheap PIR sensor that was supposedly made for outdoors but would trip all of the time with sunlight. Have not had a false trip yet with this one due to sunlight. Adjustable sensitivity and time of day functions. Great build quality, easy to mount. Would recommend.
