I've been working on a 1959 Nash and wanted to install a disconnect which would work well, be electrically reliable, make a proper connection when 'on', and economical so that I could easily disconnect the battery when working on the car. I have always been skeptical of these disconnects built into the terminal clamp. Now that I know how these work and have tried this one I am pleased with it. When you turn the green knob the cable stay physically connected but electrically disconnected. The battery is completely isolated electrically but the cable is not loose. It is quick and easy to use. If you want a visual reminder it is 'off' or to prevent someone from reconnecting the battery you can completely unscrew the green knob and take it out of the cable clamp. I just turn the knob out a few turns and do not remove it from the clamp. I put a dab of DOW #4 on the contacts to prevent corrosion over time. It probably was not necessary as the contacts are plated and battery is protected in the car under the back seat.

Dollar for dollar probably the best purchase I have made in several years of purchases in the automotive department. I looked around all the local auto shops and several websites where I was expected to spend several times as much for a battery power cut off. I found this one to be cheap and reliable, easy to install. All you need is the proper sockets or a good adjustable wrench. Be careful not to put lateral pressure on your battery posts, which should be obvious. Then you just need to to turn the knob all the way counter clockwise to disengage. You can check the first time to make sure you are doing this correctly. This is an alternative to having to pull the battery cable off the battery post if you have a parasitic drain on the electrical which you cannot fix. It may also have an anti-theft application although anyone who can figure out how to hotwire a car can probably get around this. In my case, the diagnostics do not reveal the battery drain and having replaced two batteries I have decided to just live with the need to disconnect overnight. This little gizmo fits the bill and I can't imagine spending more for fancier solutions which do exactly the same thing.

I drive a 1998 Ford Explorer XLT 5.0L (in picture) and I have a parasitic drain coming from somewhere and I sometimes drive it . If it's raining or severe weather I'll use my Explorer. I do have a solar charging large panel that I plan to install on the roof to keep its battery charged but not yet . This kill switch for the negative terminal works perfectly . When installing , i had to use a longer bolt to fit through the holes of the side you attach your cars negative terminal with because of the thickness of this switch. I used a headless bolt and it was a good thing there was a smooth section on that bolt so I could srew on a nut to lock it in place to twist the new bolt through everything if you know what I'm talking about. I would suggest ordering a long battery terminal bold and not unless you can take yours to a lowes or home depot to buy what I used . Just make sure if or when you install this , that you have clearance from your hood when its shut. When connecting the negative terminal after the positive is connected, you can have the kill switch engaged like I did to make sure nothing is touching metal when I had it secured down. If you do this and you let this terminal touch your cars metal frame or metal engine component, you will have a electrical discharge or "arch" that can cause injury. To be safe you can use anything non metal like a foam sheet (what I used) or something rubber ,towel, etc. The install time or me took 15 minutes because of the modification I had to do with installing a new bolt & 2 nuts . I have an old convertible that has to be stored in the winter. When stored, I disconnect the battery and put it on a trickle charger. I must have a short somewhere, because even during the summer when it is getting periodic use, the battery will sometimes drop down too low. I used to disconnect the battery if I wasn't going to use the car for a while, but that was a pain because the terminals can be hard to get to. Then I saw this cutoff and decided to try it out. The installation wasn't bad, the hardest part was because of the car rather than the disconnect switch itself. It works very well. Now I don't have to mess around with taking the terminal connectors off or any of that. I can just turn the handle and connect or disconnect with no problems. I can use the disconnect for short term or long term storage and it is saving me time in both situations. I was also able to position this in a way that conveniently worked for the car's teeny battery compartment, so it should fit just about anywhere if I could manage it in there.

Prior to having this I ran my new van battery down twice due to leaving the doors open for half a day while cleaning inside and making modifications. This little gadget took about a minute to install and makes any worries about a drained battery go away. I love the freedom it gives me of leaving the doors open and not having to worry about the battery. Yes, I could have taken the terminal posts off and on again, and off and on again each time I needed to, but who wants to do that? Another plus is that I have two batteries under the hood (one auxiliary)…. I know I'm not running my starting battery down when I am using my 12v gadgets etc. I(my batteries are connected parallell, so I guess it pulls from both batteries, I don't know....still learning about this stuff as I am a woman and wasn't knowledgeable before) An awesome product in my eyes, I highly recommend. I paid less than $7 here on Amazon. Amazing for what it does!

I have used these on a few vehicles. They hold up excellent. I like when I leave my classis cars and hotrods I can take the bolt and stick it in my pocket.

I almost sent back with a negative review, until I looked at the other reviews and concluded with only 2 of over 500 reviews mentioning "it didn't fit" something I was doing was wrong. Read the description on this product page! It won't fit on the positive terminal. And now that I engineer thought it through, for good reasons (SAFETY) you don't want it on the positive terminal. Somehow I missed that safety lesson in my autoshop 101 class that you always disconnect the negative first and connect the negative terminal last on a battery. That ensures when you are wrenching on/off the positive terminal, you do not blow yourself up when your wrench touches the car body. But back to this devi ce, it installed super easy and it functions well, breaking the circuit so the wet wiring in my 33 year old mercedes won't drain the battery while the car site in the shed all winter.

Used to turn off your battery / save the battery life. It was super easy to install and works as intended! Highly recommend if you want to keep up battery life, but I use it to help me turn off my car (kind of weird but was looking for a specific product since my ignition column is a bit messed up #usedcar)

This was easier to install than I thought it would be. I tested the turns to see when the circuit was open, so 1/2 turn opened the circuit and 1/2 more to ensure that any accidental jiggling would not close it again.. No more parasitic drain on my RV house battery..
