Love this DIY rig, takes a little manipulation but cheap(er) and worth it.
Really works well. I had to use a wrench to tighten all the keys (with a rag underneath to protect the finish), but I used it with Neewer follow focus, CN-160 led light (added battery with charger), and Takstar mike. So for less than $200 I had a pretty cheap, yet functional home camera / video set up for DSLR. Once the follow, system, and camera were a team, I added the Opteka dual cold shoe splitter with the mike and light, and presto: you have the basis for what I think are the essentials for a do-it-yourself version of a home video camera.I videotaped my first son's birth with this a week ago, and the results are amazing. I don't have editing software, but if I did I imagine the quality would be film quality (which I will do when I have professional software). I am a little too lazy to upload a video, but attached is a pic.Follow the comments for the follow focus: it really has to have the screws tightened for a correct follow. You can not really see in the picture, but a rubber band under the follow connector ring is essential for fit and proper adjustment (found this tip on youtube) and than I used 2 small cable ties to attach the two sides of the ring, since for my Cannon lens did not fit for the follow connector ring (you can kind of see that in the pic, on the left hand side). Also, A rubber band keeping the focus securely snug against the follow is key as well, since the two can often become dis attached- which as all DIYer's know is not something you do not want to deal with during a live shoot. The BEST thing about this set up to, with the focus and light, is that still shots are a breeze. Get your back and side lighting, turn on your LED, and use your easy focus. The subject is better illuminated, and your gross motor skills take care of focus.Anyway- there are millions of combos out there, this is mine, and I love it. Contact me with questions.

Great buy. Inexpensive but still strong
Great buy. Inexpensive but still strong.Perfect for getting the handheld feel without the jitters of holding a DSLR by hand.I use it with my GH4 and Shogun and it works perfect. This rig doesn't really have much in the way of threaded places to attach gear so you will need some magic arms, camera cage, and plates or clamps to attach stuff with.It has a quick release plate with both 1/4 and 3/8 screws and you can use both at once. The bolts that tighten down the handles don't tighten perfectly. You have to really crank them down to get the handles solid. But I think wrapping some electrical tape on the rod first might help that. The loose handles haven't really bothered me.The shoulder pad isn't great but it serves the purpose. This is a "function over form" purchase.Long story short, it does what it needs to and does it well at a great price.

which is--surprisingly--very sturdy and easy to use
This thing is a solid, well made chunk of metal. I feel confident trusting my camera to the release plate, which is--surprisingly--very sturdy and easy to use.However:1. The colored pieces (endcaps, trimmings, etc) are a different shade of blue on the handle than they are on the body. Big clash. I don't really care--all that matters to me is, can I use the thing--but my wife immmediately noticed. And so might our clients.2. The whole thing is a bit too short. Put a matte box and follow focus on there, and you can't move the camera platform all the way to the front end--which means the screen is two inches from your face. I recommend extension rods. Or, if your LCD doesn't articulate, extension rods AND an offset. I'm assuming if this is your rig of choice, you can't afford a decent EVF.EDIT: The QR plate is no longer trustworthy. I have to tighten the knob down with pliers; otherwise the plate slides back and forth.

Great price, solid for a beginner rig
Great price, solid for a beginner rig. This rig will not be steady enough without a counterweight. You will want a 3LB counter weight. Here is how to build one that looks professional and only costs about $5.00. I went to the hardware store and bought 2 - 4" hex bolts (metric thread 8.8) and 50 - 2" washers. You will also want 2 nuts with nylon inserts that thread onto the carriage bolts. put 25 washers on each bolt tighten on the nylon nut and then wrap tightly in electrical tape or paint them black. You can also dip them in black epoxy or resin and let it harden. You are just doing this for aesthetic reasons and hiding the fact that you have 50 washers on the back of your rig as a weight. Then, instead of putting the 2 blue pipe caps on the ends of the pipes behind the shoulder pad, thread the bolts you just made into the pipes. (When you buy the bolts, take one of the pipes with you to make sure it will thread all the way onto the bolt. I have included pics of my weights. Have fun! You may need to add more washers on a longer bolt if you have a heavier camera or extra camera components.

Great, high quality product and delivered fast
This is my first shoulder mount and it's a great, high quality product and delivered fast. Works perfect for my Sony RX 10, III. Tried it on my Sony HX400V and my lens on this camera is off-set of center to the camera mount so it will take modifications to make it work on that camera. I want to order two extra 15 mm rails to extend the length (I'm tall and have long arms -- plus I'm blind in my left eye, so I'll probably also look for a different articulating arm attachment for my external monitor. Other than that, it's perfect right out of the box and well made.
