The Wednesday Surprise
Beautiful artwork and very well done plot and writing. It has the loving and caring family feel that i just love to see and read to kids. An excellent choice. The story is about the illiterate grandmother learning to read because her granddaughter taught her. She demonstrates her reading skills to her son... and they are all proud of her accomplishment and tenacity

Relationships
I used the text as part of my third grade relationship unit. The students enjoyed reading about the relationship between Tuesday and Luis. They gained a deeper understanding of relationships and types of relationships. My students loved it! They want me to buy more in the serise but I told them they had to wait untIL I had more money since I purchased them myself.

Have Kleenex handy!
This is the loveliest story ever. The ending is so unexpected but sweet and joyfull! Families really do get surprised when children take the initiative and keep it a secret.

Strong Healthy Family Ties
We like the strong healthy family ties between all the family members. But the special bond is between Anna and her Grandmother. Anna teaches her Grandmother how to read. We like that Anna is as smart as paint, as her Grandmother says Anna is.

The Wednesday Surprise
I bought this book because it was recommended by 'Roots' as material for a Sunday School lesson. I was unable to use it because it was about the disappointment when Dad didn't come home one night, as expected, but the children's delight when he turned up the next morning. Unfortunately some of the children in our Sunday School have an absent father, so it would have been very inappropriate to use it in a situation where not all the children have a 2 parent family.
