BLACK+DECKER Cordless Screwdriver, Alkaline (BCF601AA)

I wanted a cordless screwdriver to leave out in our patio area. Unfortunately, I don't have a convenient power outlet for a charger. I initially left one of my rechargeable screwdrivers out there, but found that it would be dead after a couple months without a recharge. This is where the Black & Decker AA powered screwdriver solved my problem, especially combined with lithium AA batteries instead of alkaline. Lithium AA batteries provide higher voltage, last longer under load and will not develop that nasty white powder that unused alkaline will sometimes show. The screwdriver itself is pretty nice. Has forward and reverse, comes with four fairly high-quality bits in a bit holder, plus an extension. It has a decent amount of torque and speed, though not the same as my DeWalt cordless screwdriver. It also comes with a LED light and a quick lock chuck that fits drill bits and other type of bits that are designed for that purpose. It does come with batteries, but they did not last very long, especially compared to the lithiums. For its intended occasional purpose, it's the perfect backup cordless screwdriver. I've used it for drilling pilot holes, tightening up fence screws and patio furniture. I've also dropped it a couple times and it has proved its durability. And I have yet to grab the Dewalt out of the garage for use on the patio. So thumbs up Black & Decker.

I originally picked this up to replace my plug in B&D screwdriver I've had for a couple decades. This driver is compact, has decent torque, and with the extender can get into tight spaces my other driver could not. It runs great off of rechargeable AA batteries meaning if I run it low I can just swap batteries instead of having to plug it in. The magnet in the tip is very strong, hopefully it stays that way, and makes picking up screws with bits very easy. The bits could have been better thought out though, it seems like they would be easy to lose. I ordered a B&D bit kit I put the bits into so I wouldn't misplace them.

So far, I’m really happy with it. It’s compact, has plenty of torque for what I need, and the included extender lets me reach spots my old driver couldn’t. One of my favorite features is that it runs on rechargeable AA batteries, so when they run low I can just swap in a fresh set instead of waiting for it to recharge. The magnetic bit holder is also surprisingly strong, which makes picking up and holding screws much easier. Hopefully it stays that way over time. My only real complaint is the bit storage. The included setup feels like it would be easy to lose bits.

This Black & Decker powered screwdriver has to be one of the best buys on Amazon! I had been looking for a 6 volt simple yet strong power screwdriver for a few weeks. The quality is good. The design is very good. The weight is balanced, and works great for those general household jobs etc. and it takes 4 AA batteries!

This thing doesn't over-torque so you have less risk of stripping things. It is like a home improvement artist designed this thing. It has the best overall fee and utility of any tool I own. It is perfection. When you let off the power button, it functions like a normal screw driver and you can hand tighten things without changing any other settings. The bottom line is if you are a novice at home improvement or want something that won't destroy what you are working on, this is good. No stupid built in rechargeable batteries either. So if it dies I can change the batteries in 2 min vs charging it. Just get enloop rechargeable batteries if you want to be a true environmentalist. It uses standard drill bits. So say you are putting together furniture with allen wrench type screws. Just go to the hardware store and buy allen wrench drill bits and you are good to go. I have a ton of tools, including a lot of screw guns that are much more powerful than this. This is my go to for basic stuff due to the feel it has. If you have a kid in college or an apartment this would be a good start for them to get into power tools.

I didn't know if I would like this or not. It is replacing an old Black & Decker that I have used forever! I honestly think that I am going to like this one even better! Seems like a good product. I love being able to replace my own batteries instead of having to depend on a rechargeable one and the light that they have added is a big plus.

I have other chargeable drills/screw drivers and was looking for screw drivers with batteries. As a landlord, I rarely need it. So, when I need it sometimes they are discharged. It seems to be pretty much the "only" alkaline battery (not needing to be charged). Build is strong and feels well in the hands. I am giving it 3(*) because, 1. I only used it twice during last few days. The batteries that came with they depleted fast. 2. Switching direction needs two hands. I am not sure why B&D couldn't make switching easier by one hand. Not a difficult improvement. 3. I wish, there could have been a way to store at least one bit. I like the feel of this screw driver. If better quality batteries last longer, I could go for a higher rating. I like the LED lights. If there were a way to switch the lights off when needed, perhaps would have improved the battery life.

SO MANY ISSUES: First, the diagram and instructions on use go just so far and leave a lot of guessing as to what they refer to. Second and WORST: the battery cover on the end of the handle was impossible for a female of average hand strength to remove. Had to take to my son for him to try to open. After it was finally open, it was difficult to keep closed because battery placement is so odd ( 2 of the 4 are higher than the other 2 ) Third issue, won’t drill through fiberboard. I have a 25 year old Black and Decker electric screwdriver that worked much easier on all kinds of material and didn’t have to be assembled. That is why I am convinced that B and D must have sold their name to a foreign company Cuz this thing isn’t worth a nickel much less the $25 I paid for it. The only reason I gave it a 1 star rating is because there is no ZERO.

Good product and it has a good torque to tight and loose the scree. Best part is AA cells no need to worry of rechargeable batteries

Powered by standard AA batteries means I can change the batteries easily when they die. This is important for people who don't use electric screwdrivers often (less than 10 times a year, like me) and worried about the rechargeable battery dying due to ageing. Recommend this electric screwdriver for people who open/close electronic device cases (like PC cases) but shouldn't be used on woodworks, such as assembling IKEA furniture.

After fixing couple of things that had dozen of screws, I thought it would be nice to have an electrical one. I already have a power drill for "more serious work", but for opening computer cases and such, a smaller driver with less torque is perfectly fine. So this works great. Uses 4 x AAs! So unless the motor dies, this will last as long as I can swap batteries. It's not super strong, but it will still strip screws on a laptop, so be careful! The included LED light is a nice touch. Only con would be that a spot to clip 1 or 2 extra bits would be fantastic. Definitely recommended!
