Stunning!
I had been wanting to buy this book for a long time to add to my collection of books by Sebastiao Salgado. It is beautifully reproduced and is one of his finest books. If you are a fan of Mr. Salgado’s, this is a must for your collection.

Gorgeous book. I use it as a reference when editing
This is one of my favorites i my collection. The printing quality alone is spectacular, as are Salgado amazing images. This is pretty much a gold standard of fine art photo books in my opinion. It’s like having an art gallery in my house.

One of the Worlds Greatest Photographers
I am a big fan of Salgado's work. I love how he is documented how’s the world is/was in the 20th century and the start of the 21st. This was an incredible time to be alive. Please hundreds, maybe thousands, of years life changed very little on this planet of ours, then everything changed!

Some outstanding photos and some very good ones!
My first book of Salgado photographs after reading about him and seeing some of his work. The physical quality of the book from its paper & binding to the character set & the reproduction of the photographs is good to excellent. The accompanying text is informative and it sheds some light on the content. Absolutely none of the photographs is mediocre. There are widely published ones and it is good to see them large and well printed. Salgado is regarded by some as the best living photographer in his genre und I can see here why he may well deserve that title. I do not agree with some misguided criticisms about his work claiming that he exploits the problems he records and shows. I believe he shows a sincere approach and does his job perfectly.I give 4 stars instead of 5 only because of the relatively narrow scope (in terms of timeline and geography) of this work; I believe he had enough material to cover more of Africa; however, he has focused on only a part of her. If you just care about "photography", the book certainly deserves a full score.

Just got the bildband today (therefore only a first impression). As usual: Salgado is a warrant for the extraordinary. Everything which enters his exposure box is supreme: cryistallinilty and 'smoothness' combined (I know: a contradiction - but Salgado makes it to appear 'combined'). He's Herzog. Herzog is Salgado. I know this sounds simplistic. But in a land of small hands we have to point out the big hands - with verve. Some exposures in the bildband are also already published in "Workers". Nevertheless, this bildband rounds it up in regards to the power of fire and putting it under control by humankind (for the better or the worse). Enjoy!

Salgado is supreme
Salgado is the supreme photographer and these b&w photos of Africa are awesome and deeply thought provoking, beautifully presented I did not find the text useful and thought the lack of sensitive and intelligent commentary was a shortcoming. I was deeply grateful for the format as Salgado's grand project Genesis has even more stupendous and awe-inspiring photos but it is badly let down by the format in which these fabulous pictures have been fractured by a fold in the middle with the photos being spread across two pages. Horror!

Fascinating images
Not as impressively stunning as 'Genesis', this collection of pictures is more thematically mixed, between nature and culture. I would have prefered two books, one with a more nature centric selection and another with a more people oriented focus. Also, it really ought to be at least re-edited with borderless pictures.
