Teach Yourself VISUALLY iPhone 4S 1st Edition

After sorting through several books on Amazon regarding the usage of the iPhone4S, I settled on this one. This book is exactly what I needed to learn the ins and outs of using the iPhone 4S. The little phamplet that came with the iPhone was barely helpful and looking online for instructions doesn't work for me. Sitting down with the book on my lap to the information needed with the phone in hand works beautifully. I can sort through issues page by page, or skip to the chapter for the questions needing immediate answers. The book is clear and concise with step by step instructions on "how to" do anything with the phone. While not being a "tech" knowledgeable person, I could work through some of what seemed obvious on my own, putting in phone numbers, contacts, etc., but this book covers all explanations the average person needs answered, and then some. Learning to use text or taking pictures and sending them on was fun to learn from the precise language in the book. Taking the phone to Canada after just purchasing it and learning about the Data roaming was interesting. Explanations on how to Sync apps, using iTunes, browsing the web, sending and receiving emails, iCloud, WiFi, and even digital books, are great. This book is chock full of information for every conceivable problem or question that I encountered as a "beginner" iPhone owner. Being a senior citizen trying out the newest technology can be intimidating, but the book makes it so much easier, I love it. I can sit in my own home at my leisure and just read and learn! Apple invented a great product and this book enhances all of the features in easy to read and understand language with great graphics. It truly complements the iPhone.

This book was illustrated well, the pictures were clear and helped show where to touch the screen. The instruction were numbered so you good read and then look at the photos to find the place they were explaining. I found it made a smoother transition from my old cell phone into a phone with a lot of options.The only reason I did not rate it a 5 star is because some of the instruction and photos were not exactly how my phone looked or worked. I think since my 4S phone was a newer edition it may have been upgraded and the book was from a previous phone. But it did not confuse or make the learning any less complicated for me.Occasionally I still look something up to see if there is an easier way to do something or to verify that I was doing it correctly.

I really enjoy using this book. I have not read it cover to cover. It is very well formatted to go directly to a topic to learn about the subject, so I have used it to figure out specific issues. It answers the questions, and guides, very well. A friend showed me a few "tricks" with the phone, which I have not yet seen mentioned in the book, so I think it could be better in that regard. But when I was in a local book store and compared this book side by side with other how-to books for the iphone 4s, I found this one to be much clearer to understand easily because of the picture format.

This book has been very helpful to me, with my first smart phone, and has taught me a lot. It covers a tremendous ground of information, and most of it is clearly explained. Some, is a little fuzzy. And some questions that I have, are not answered in this self-help book...thus the 4 stars. But it has good photos, and mostly, clear explanations. I have to say, it has been a good supplement to what my friends have taught me. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has a new iphone 4S.

This book is okay if you have absolutely no idea how to turn your iPhone on and off. The illustrated step by step instructions are nice, but I wish the book would have left out some of the no brainer coverage and replaced it with some most frequently asked questions like what the little white symbols by the battery means. The simplistic steps in some of the instructions could have been left out as they quickly become redundant. I chose this book over "iPhone for Dummies" and quickly realize that was a dumb move. The book is okay, but if you want more of an in depth look and explanation of what your iPhone is capable of and how to tap into those capabilities, you might want to rethink buying this item.

I do like the phone. The one grievance is, it doesn't hold the charge very long. It needs to be recharged almost daily. I don't use it a lot, but I want it to be reliable when I need it. The camera is wonderful as well as the other features. I'm still learning: one is how to trace the missed calls and call back if I wish. In conclusion, it is a good phone.

For these aged eyes and mind, this book is a godsend. The color pictures in the book are exactly what I see on the screen, and the directions are easy to follow. After consulting the book 2-3 times per issue, I usually can remember how to do things I never knew would be on a phone. This is an amazing phone with features I did not know existed, and this book details them in a manner easy to follow. I know why Apple doesn't provide a print instruction manual for the phone (cost), but if they did it probably would not have been as easy to follow.

just haven't gotten through all the chapters and even question if all areas of "teach"are absolutely necessary; saying the book was a good purchase choice. Additionally, some chapters that I have peeked at, will unlock the answer to many more questions I mayhave in the future. The whole book content is good visual teach & learning. I'm happy.

I bought this because I felt that just playing around with my new phone was not ensuring that I discovered all its capabilities. Also, I did not want to have to rely on my sons to show me that way around the phone. It is easy to read and I have found it extremeley useful to dip into. Chapters are colour coded, so easy to find. There are pictures of the phone screen beside each instruction with red arrows on the picture matching the instructions. It takes me a little longer these days to take in and remember new information. This book really makes me feel that I shall be able to use this phone with confidence. A very good buy.

I am a complete newcomer to the iPhone so I thought it would be a good idea to buy a book to help me. However I think this book assumes you have had an iPhone before. All the basic stuff I want to know about the phone isn't covered and every single time I have to go to Google to find out the answers! I am very disappointed with it

I would recommend this to all iphone users, not just the first time ones. It is far better than the official User Guide, is far more usefull and has much more in it. Everything you ever wanted to know about your iphone.Buy it - even if you are already an expert.

Amazing bargain in virtually new condition from Marketplace seller. Well written and good illustrations make it an ideal book for an iPhone Newbie.

Only covers the basic operations and once there is a major software update - well the book slowley becomes obsolete, but if you have never owned an Ipohone before it is worth it.
